Fuljenz leads Kelly to golf tourney win

BEAUMONT - Kelly High School's Jake Fuljenz shot a two-round total of 143 to lead the Bulldogs to first place in the Southeast Texas High School Golf Championships played Friday and Saturday at Brentwood Country Club.

The Kelly A team put together a two-day total of 292-295-587 to win the team championship by 53 shots over Little Cypress-Mauriceville. It was Kelly's third win in six outings this season.

Fuljenz was one of four Kelly golfers to place in the top 5. Fuljenz' teammate Max Keen placed second with a 146. LC-M placed two players in the top 6, led by a third-place effort from senior Zane Collier (73-73-146).

An 18-team field began play on Friday at Brentwood Country Club. The top 10 teams after the first round played for the championship on Saturday at Brentwood. The second eight teams played a consolation round on Saturday at Bayou Din Golf Club.

Silsbee won the consolation title with a 341, 10 shots better than Orangefield. Silsbee's Chris Stout was the individual consolation winner with a 72.
