Because when I close a thread, I catch all sorts of crap (interestingly enough by the folks who are usually causing the need for a thread to be locked) that I am favoring one school or protecting another.  And quite frankly, I am growing pretty sick and tired of that accusation.

I start the game thread for one reason, so that others are informed.  Once a game goes final and the final score is listed in the thread title, the utility of that thread ceases to exist.  And I have found that not only in this forum, but in the other high school sports forums once a thread goes final is when most of the stuff that folks do not like occurs.  They go after a coach or a kid (which has been against our policy from Day One and is codified in our rules), they talk about another town, which is pretty doggone distasteful and other things that Rake spoke of (and he was one of the first to speak up publicly, others have done so privately).  The single best way to prevent it is to shut down any game thread after the score goes final.

It is not without regret.  The post game is also when legitimate kudos for the effort of the kids  are given and sadly, this new method will prevent that as well.  I would suggest for those that do so, a comment thread to give them that kudos.

Sorry, it is imperfect.  But it is the best I can do for now.

I'm sorry, but shutting down the game thread after the final score is not right. I've always agreed with you grad, on pretty much everything. However, not this. Why punish all of us (many of the post game comments are stats and great conversation) because of a select few that want to whine and complain? Instead of shutting down the threads, ban the adults that can't act like adults. If we can't talk about the game, after the game, I'm out. I'll go to another board to have a civilized conversation. You do realize that you will lose a crap load of posters if you do this, right?

I may be wrong but this resembles a lot like the issues on college campuses creating safe zones for the snow flakes. Yes there are comments out of line, yes people are to sensitive . For the most part people are just talking trash for fun .  If site is sensored to heavily, I see more harm than good.

Have to say I agree with Kicker on this. A lot of good info is posted after game has ended on the threads. Do they sometimes get out of line, yes they do, but I for one would hate to see this happen.

Just to be clear.....

I personally don't want threads shut down after the game and I hope my earlier statement hasn't given anyone the idea that I do. I would hope the "overly excessive trash talk" that derails threads over and over would take place somewhere else or in another forum. Let all the "free speech, congratulatory statements, and game re-caps" flow like water because that's what the people want. Just for example when a baseball playoff thread turns into a p!$$!n match about school history or prowess in another sport that has its own dedicated forum then we are truly off topic and or off the rails, this is where the offenders need to be dealt with by the mods so the topic stays on track.

JMHO, Respectfully.

I've enjoyed following the forums. Best of luck to all.  Time to log-off and I guess attempt to concentrate on grown-up stuff.  May the site have continued growth.  So long from Chester86 aka Tim Bean.

Ok, ok.  I have been talked off of the ledge.  Against my better judgment, I will keep the game threads open.

I will ask a favor.  I have a lot on my plate here (keeping up with the games, posting the 2017 schedules, preparing 2017 football team previews, getting the volleyball forum ready, approving (or not) new members to make sure that we don't get spammers, reviewing reported posts and communicating with coaches to get 2017 info) so I will need a couple of favors as I usually can't get to all posts.

At the top of every post right beside the time stamp is a very light font "report post."  Please use this for offensive posts.  That way I can see the offensive posts and act on it.  Second, those that like to "rabblerouse" need to stop it.  As the masses have now spoken, leniency will be in short supply on these posts.

Hope you don't stay gone.  You're as classy as it gets.

Guys, y'all need to realize how blessed you are to have a site like this. The work that goes into getting scores, schedules, providing game threads etc. Not to mention the time spent keeping it going. This is the best site in Texas. Smoaky and the Old Coach (even though good sites) can't hold a candle to setx. What if this site didn't exist?  It seems that people get their feelings hurt to easy these days. Just enjoy the ride.

Great post no-look.  And spot on.  I'm thrilled I found out about it.  I spend many hours reading and posting (old people gotta have something to do lol).  And its inevitable that some will be problems.  Actually, I was surprised at the reaction to the thread in question.  Compared to some football threads/posters (Crosby :) ) it seemed relatively mild.  The bottom line, we've got a great thing here.  The information provided on this site is priceless.  It's up to all of us to protect it.  Try not to get offensive, but if you do, apologize for it.  Let's all continue, as no-look said, to just enjoy the ride.

I know both you and No look personally and I think you need to meet no look.  When you get a chance, take a drive through Huntington and go 6 or 7 miles over the speed limit.  When you get your ticket, ask for directions to No Looks house.

To all the SETX members,

It's time to take the board back and make it into the place we all enjoy. For quite some time this place has gone downhill for a variety of reasons. If you want a prime example read the BC vs Silsbee baseball game 2 thread starting on page 2, it's just over the top nonsense by both folks just trolling and moderators doing the same thing. There have been some really cool people who posted great information that just quit contributing due to all the trash that gets stirred up. Some of those folks completely left and that's a shame because they made this board a great place for people to get caught up on local high school athletics as well as college sports to some degree. I would like to humbly offer up a suggestion and that's to create a totally separate forum for those folks who just want to antagonize each other and let the trash talk flow. Let all those folks who constantly derail topics have at one another to their hearts content and stay out of topics where they disrupt everybody else. Hopefully this alternate forum can be created and the sports forums can go back to being about sports, the real reason most of us got here in the first place.

To the Moderators,

I personally appreciate the time you guys put in to keep this place going, I know that's a huge undertaking and thankless job. Hopefully you can "police" the site in the future and discourage all the "foolishness" by sending those unwanted comments to that "alternate forum". One more public appeal to "AAW" , you are an ultra knowledgeable guy who has done a fantastic job promoting local high school sports and I thank you for that. You were always super nice to my son while he was playing and you have been a stand up guy on other issues as well. I would encourage you to promote a little more positive responses to topics by yourself and others going forward because this board is the lifeline to local sports for people all over our area and beyond.

With respect to all,

Rake1

Reb, if you get stopped coming through Huntington, whatever you do just don't mention the name Stevenash. Things could deteriorate quickly.

In all fairness no-look, that is also true of a lot of places not named Huntington...
