I was just wondering how is a athlete nominated for this award? Does their coach have to nominate then they have a committee who decides by stats? Again just wondering...for future reference!

Congratulations to the winners this year!!!

No nominations. This is strictly a Beaumont Enterprise award. The writers for the BE decide these teams.

Oh ok that makes since as the smaller schools don't get recognition from the Beaumont Enterprise! Our local newspapers do though! Thanks for the info!

What is considered a smaller school? Because I see Kountze, Kirbyville, and Newton which are small schools .

Your non typical 2A schools like Evadale and Big Sandy! That is all...

Big Sandy is not within the Enterprise's coverage area.

These guys have a tough job picking these teams. You have to try to be fair and put kids from different classifications on it. Obviously there are several very talented players who got left off the team. There are probably players who are better than some listed on here, but it is tough to do. Congrats to those who made it.

Coaches send nominations (with stats) and we do the rest.

I assume it is the way it used to be in that 1. the coaches favorite 2, how hard the coach pressures Danny and the rest 3. Do they personally know them.

Bad thing about sports writers is most, not all, don't have a clue about the game and never played it

Bob West and Tom Halliburton excluded Maybe Shapiro too I don't know him

I also have coaches send regular season stats for the entire team in case someone doesn't get nominated. Have to cover your bases, no pun intended.

I'm not sure what "the way it used to be" means.  I grew up here and I didn't make this team in '89! But the news reporters where at a lot of my games, there was just a lot of talent to pick 11 players from.  I know for a fact some of these players definitely were not not the coaches favorites!
