One statewide site has done some mock ups for 5A-I, 5A-II and 4A-I which, if they come to fruition, would be very interesting:

The El Paso districts (EP and Yslets) are going to be big factor. Right now each has their own 5A district and share a 6A district. One of which, I don't remember which one, already has problems with scheduling and schedules football games as doubleheaders on Thursdays and Fridays. Having the schools go from 2 districts to 3 may not be doable and they opt causing chaos around the rest of the state.

Besides that there are 2 other issues in 5AD2. The first of which is Wylie. Unless they get kids to transfer to Jim Ned snapshot day (which they might), they are about 90% gone to 5A. Question is where to put them because the nearest 5AD2 school would be Lubbock or Aledo. The second problem I see is how he or she divided the Fort Worth area because UIL has basically decided never again to allow Aledo with FWISD schools. That will cause a big change in districts as well.

While neither of these problems relate to SE Texas they could create a domino effect that will cause problems everywhere.

There have been rumors about rezoning the Baytown schools. If they do I'm not sure how it will pan out, but I believe they are aiming to move more kids into Lee's zone. As a GCM parent I would hope any rezoning would move us back down to the 5A level where we wouldn't have to play Northshore and Atascocita.

If 776 is the cut off for 4a DI, then WOS will have some more competition in DII R3 in 2018. Carthage would be almost a lock to drop down to DII.

If so, so be it.  However, if Carthage drops to DII, chances are that they will wind up in Region II.  That would make for some VERY good playoff games.

Well, if this split happens it would definitely be a lot more "fair". As far as 5A-D2 it looks awful weak, I know that's probably not a popular statement on here. Compare that to Houston's D1 S/SW district that will have Manvel, Shadow Creek, Angleton, Elkins and Hightower, one of which would get Friendswood in the first round. Very good for the UIL to make money but I think you're going to see a lot less competitive games in the playoffs before you get to the third round and later much like the lower divisions since the split. I can see it being a big win for a bunch of teams like Crosby though.

I think the split in 4A D1 is probably the harshest of the splits.

When you compare a school the size of Bridge city at 783 and growing 2 years ago facing off against schools the size of Lumberton/LCM at 1100 kids, it's a killer.  A three or four hundred kid difference isn't that big of deal when you're talking about enrollments of 3200 vs 3600.

I always joke that you could add the entire Newton High School to BC and we still wouldn't be as big as District rival LCM, but it's true.  I can't think of a spread that seems to create a disparity as big as 4A D1.

Nederland and Central have been dealing with double this deficit in several playoff games for years

I know.... the deficits are worse in the smaller classifications.  I mean, how would a school with 125 kids fare versus a school with 425?  300 hurts a lot worse on smaller schools.

We're closer in size to tons of 4A D2 schools than the 4A D1 schools in our district.  I can't imagine how we'd do if we played schools our size.  We might win a DC, LOL.

I guess I shouldn't gripe.... the year before the top three finishers (Silsbee, Jasper, BC) were the smallest three schools in that district.

Ozen (1121) and Lumberton (1157) have been dealing with the likes of PA Memorial (2098).  The Panthers beat the Titans 2 years ago if my memory serves me correct...

Exactly.  Before the addition of PA Memorial, Nederland (1596) and Central (1471) were always your big school representatives going against bigger schools.  That's why regardless of finish this coming year, I'm hoping for Nederland to make the playoffs along with PA Memorial (2098) so that those 2 can be the D1 reps.  And Central and PN-G (1447) to get in and be the D2 reps.  Since this format, Central has never played on the D2 side.

Incorrect.  Central played D2 when they played Caney Creek in 2002.  Ozen went D-1and played Oak Ridge...
