13th Annual All-Leader Hoop Team

Van Wade

The Orange Leader

The 2006-07 Orange County basketball season produced some moments to remember.

On the girls’ side, both the Orangefield Lady Bobcats and West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs punched a ticket to the Class 3A Region III Tournament for the second striaght season, combining for more than 50 wins. It marked the third time in four years that the Lady Mustangs qualified for a regional tournament.

The Deweyville Lady Pirates found their way to the postseason again after playing in a rugged District 24-2A. The Bridge City Lady Cardinals produced a 17-win campaign and the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears increased their win total by four games.

For the local boys squads, it was mainly about a “youth movement†as all six teams were loaded with young talent, with the exception of WO-S, which was a senior-laden team that once agains made the playoffs before bowing out in the bidistrict round.

Both LC-M and Orangefield will both certainly be in the playoff hunt next season with much of their starting lineup and top six or seven players returning.

It’s was a magical ride and we can’t wait for another season to roll around come November.

As always, it wasn’t easy picking the All-Orange Leader teams because all 12 of our teams had plenty of talent.

So, without further ado, here is the 13th Annual All-Orange Leader “Best of the 2006-07 hoop campaign:

Way to go ladies, especially B.Scott, Janae, and Kia.

To Rebecca and Dominique (the other Lady Mustangs), you complete the Lady Mustangs.  You didn't get any recognition, but without you two...the Lady Mustangs wouldn't have made it as far as they did.  They wouldn't have split district games with OF and Silsbee and they wouldn't have made it to Regionals.  Just know that the Mustang faithful know your value!!! ;) ;)

The oranger leader does a much better job of picking their hoop teams than the beaumont enterprise.  The beaumont enterprise puts kids on their gold team that live nowhere near the beaumont area. Last year they had Adrian McGowen from goodrich on their team. Do they even get the Beaumont Enterprise in Goodrich Texas? I don't think so. I can understand the surrounding schools, but a school that is a good 2 hours away. Give me a break.
