Silsbee 30 Jasper 23/FINAL

For some reason, I had no cell service in Jasper so I couldn't post.

Anywho...

Very good game.  I saw some good improvements in this game. We found out that Collins is a better runner than we all thought... He gashed up the defense and looked not too bad passing the ball.  I assume he just needed to get the first game jitters out of the way.

Ending the first half and beginning the 3rd quarter, Jasper had all the momentum.  They marched down and scored the TD on opening drive of the third quarter... I thought they were dead in the water.  Then out of nowhere, the Tiger Defense woke up, started on some hard hits, then things got chippy, enough so that Jasper's QB was slow to get up.  Then he rose to his feet and appeared to start chirping with #54 for Silsbee.  I don't know. If the Jasper QB Sells was hurt or was ejected for some reason, but he never returned.  Silsbee's defense pitched a shutout from that point with hard hits and defended passes.  Seem to spark the offense too.  4th quarter, Silsbee had a few chances to put it away, but too conservative with those stretch plays again, which Jasper was stopping.  Once again, the defense saved the day and flexed the or muscles.

Jasper is good and will win their district and make a deep playoff run.  If Silsbee's defense shows up like this every night, they'll win district and make a deeper playoff run.

P.S.  Shout out to #23 for Silsbee on assisting with that huge QB sack close to the end of the game.

I have to ask. Jasper punted several times.  All were short out of bounds punts.  Was that just to keep the ball out of Barnes' hands or was that the norm last week as well?

I had this discussion with fans in the stands.  They punted several times. And faked a punt once.  I told the nearby fans, it just does something to you when you see the fastest kid in the state standing there ready to return the punt.  I was like, it makes me want to take my chances fake punting all night.  It's probably why there were many squib kicks and short kicks on kickoffs.
