Updated Rankings: Top 10 teams in SETX high school football

WO-S does still hold a winning record against WB. Not that they would beat them this year but just sayin’.  WB has a LOT of improvement to do to beat the Woodlands with the 70 points scored on them last year. I know you can’t compare well between two years but the staff and some players are the same so there is overlap.

Also, had a story in Sunday's newspaper about football players who, like many in this area, are still displaced despite the return of school, football:

Horrible rankings, JMHO.

Nope.  Wasn't expecting Central or Silsbee to be on there.  I just expected West Brook and Newton to be higher.

And other reasons that I won't disclose at this point...

Uh oh and now I want to know and your gonna stay silent lol. If I'm WB I'm not worried about. Wos is there because of what they have done in the past plus they are still undefeated. I don't follow newton so idk there

Newton is super good.  I've seen em. They have some horses and a couple of beasts in the linebacking corps...

I think it ought to be split into two polls- 6A/5A and then everyone else.

WOS is the best program in the area but they wouldn't beat West Brook. And if WOS had to play a 5A/6A schedule week end week out they'd have a few losses.

Not a knock on the above schools, but it's hard to compare the schools fairly when there such a disparity in enrollment. Ranking schools against their peers seems to be a better route.

I believe the Enterprise used to do separate rankings for big schools and small schools in the late 90s early 2000s.

I know there's not a lot of big schools in the area anymore but if there are schools outside the area but they're in the district they ought to be in the rankings. I have the same quibble with the chrons rankings West Brook and WOS need to show up in their weekly area rankings

Y'all are sister papers. You can make it happen.

I don't know that anyone can argue that neither West Brook nor Newton present a reasonable argument for being No, 1 in this poll.  In fact, in our own poll, I am one of the six that placed Newton ahead of West Orange-Stark.

That being said, the Mustangs have also built quite a case for their being at the top of this ranking.  They are currently embarking on an undefeated season, have added to a state best 31 game winning streak and come off of a win against a team ranked #6 in their classification.

As impressive as the Bruins and Eagles have been, they do not have that full portfolio in their favor.  Could Newton?  I have no doubt.  Could West Brook?  I think so but I guess you'll have to see me in about 5 hours to see if I was right.
