We coach our jr high like our varsity that is why they are always good and are good when they get into high school. jv_coach

They do not lift on game day during football season. Seeing a kid play on a day he has lifted is as obvious as watching a little league coach tell his kids how to play when he doesn’t know what he is doing. All you do is stand around and scratch and spit. BTW I have seen some salty baseball teams that lifted on game day.

ThunderCats97
Without Conditioning & Tackling at practice and already has plans next year to schedule 2A schools for the preseason. He's just not up for the big dogs of 3A. The Philosophy of play weaker teams to get better is for the "guy who just got dumped and doesn't really got the confidence so he asks the ugly girl to prom" so heartbreaking always "what could've been". Kville99
I can speak from an outside and an inside perspective. We just moved back to Kirbyville from San Angelo. My son is a freshman at Kirbyville and plays JV. We had high hopes of a program that would be competitive. Meanwhile, disappointment set in. My wife drove him 3-4 days a week during the summer from Deweyville to workout. Minimal players (4-5) were there. I don't think they knew or were encouraged to show up. I agree the kids own a portion of their conditioning, but it has been proven that there isn't a void of athletes in Kirbyville. When he comes home and tells me they aren't conditioning enough, there is a problem. The coaches are stand-offish and I have heard of many negative interactions with parents, from the parents themselves, one being a school employee. I've expressed my concerns with a board member and hope that Kirbyville will make the necessary changes to correct this atrocity.
ThunderCats97
Well this week vs Buna looks like the new game plan is to run the Buna offense. Kids have lost all confidence in this AD/Coach many (8 or 9) have said they will not play for him next year willing to sit out senior year. I plan on making a school board meeting or two to address my opinion not only on the football program but the high school administration as well. I am willing to spend a few extra tax dollars on a winning program. Taxes are the same now as they were when Alvarez was here and the kids have lost hope in the program and district. GoFundMe
be slow to judgement regarding anything coaching related folks. this is highschool football, where 98% of kids never excel in the sport if the coach is teaching them things outside of football, hes doing a job that has no price tag too many of these small communities in east texas are so quick to say "get that coach out of here" way too soon
Old school eagle
You are right. We all should be very slow to judge. But some things stick out like a sore thumb and deserve scrutiny. I have no dog in this fight but if what is being said in this thread is true, it's hard for me not to feel sorry for the kids. What kind of coach doesn't want to do everything he possibly can to make sure they have the best possible chance of winning ? If you aren't preparing your team to the best of your abilities you are cheating your kids. If kids are already talking about not playing their senior year then the coach has lost his team and they have no confidence in him. Playing smaller schools is not the answer. If the team is not in condition those smaller schools are going to beat them (San Augustine). I don't know that I have the answer but with all the upheaval that's gone on in K'ville over the last 9 months it seems politics has taken a front seat ahead of the kids.
