San Augustine peeps, need your help

I will be coming up to SA this Friday for the game against Joaquin, our 2A/Private Game of the Week. Looking for a good place for a pregame meal either in SA or on the way there.

What route are you taking?

Ima Jeans and Texas Grill are both really good. 

 

Ima Jeans is like soul food-ish and Texas Grill speaks for itself lol

Because I live on the northwest side of Silsbee, thinking about taking 69 to Zavalla, then take 147 to SA.

But I'm open to go a different way if it puts me at a good place to eat on the way. I do prefer to take in a place in town if all possible.

There is a very good place on the Northeast side of the San Augustine Courthouse square.  "The Heart of Texas Grill"  located as 102 East Columbia San Augustine TX 75972.  Pretty neat place with very good fish, shrimp, and chicken fried steak.  Pretty cool restaurant!

Mary Kay’s in SA is very good.  Go through the Hwy 21 intersection and it’s about 1/4 mile on right.  Can’t beat the chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken.  That’s about your only option.  They do have a place on th square, the Pinto Bean, or something likely that.

 

Not much besides that.  Only other option would be stop in Jasper.

Mary Kay’s is a good option.  Good food.

Mary Kays is a good option. The best option is Deans in Huntington, however that is about 20 miles out of the way.

I have eaten at Dean's many times. Good food, just out of the way on this trip.

I have eaten at every dive around my favorite hangout (Rayburn) and Deans is my favorite. However Mary Kays is not a bad option. Carlenes in Zavalla is not a bad option for a buffet...

Really wanted to eat in SA to make it more convenient. Looks like Mary Kay's is the place for me.

Zavalla is only 13 miles from Deans. I eat there about 5 times a week. They have good fried foods but I can't get past the soul food line. Lol

Do yourself a favor and go to the Heart of Texas Grill.  While Mary Kay's is good the Texas Grill is better, plus it's on the way to the stadium.  I eat there at least monthly.

I cant get past the homemade apple pies!!!! My perfect weekend is.... PNG wins Friday, I have adult beverages on the way to the lake and talk smack to Pakronos on the way while I make my wife drive.... Wake up catch some fish, then go to Deans for Lunch..........

Go to Hwy 96 north and stay on it until you see the sign " San Augustine". In case you get hungry after the game, there is a McDonald's on hwy 96 that stays open late at night (better than nothing)

There is also a Mexican food place on us 96 coming into town. Lived in SA for 39 years. The facilities and football stadium are awesome. For a 2a school. Wish I could be there this Friday but hey will listen to the game on here
