Sadly, I heard today that legendary Bridge City baseball coach Chuck Young passed away this afternoon.

On behalf of SETXsports, my sympathy and prayers to the Young family.

For those that are a little young, Coach Young, who coached Bridge City from 1967-1992 and Texas City from 1993 until his retirement, garnered over 700 wins in his career.

His teams snagged made 31 playoff appearances, 15 district titles, 15 bi-district wins, 10 regional quarterfinals, 6 regional semifinals and 2 state championship game appearances (one with Bridge City, one with Texas City).  He was inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches' Association Hall of Fame in 2008.

But probably his greatest accomplishment would be that even though he has not coached for an Orange County team in over 25 years, any player or coach in the county would have run through a brick wall out if he would have asked them to if only out of the love for that man.

Umpired some of his games at Bridge City and umpired 2nd base in 2007 when Texas City played in the State Semi Finals. Chuck was helping coach the team that year. You could tell he was a coach that his players loved to play for.
