3 UCLA Basketball Players Arrested in China

3 Players arrested for shoplifting, including Lilangelo Ball, face 3-10 years in prison and a lengthy trial that could take months or maybe years.  China has almost a 100% conviction rate when people are indicted.  

 

UCLA was in China to open their season against Georgia Tech.  So California legislator banned state funded travel to Texas, North Carolina, and 6 other states due to discriminatory bathroom laws, but they will pay to send teams Communist China?  Typical liberal hypocrisy.  At least the players won’t have to go to states where they can’t pee in whatever bathroom they choose.

They were released on bail but will interesting to say the least from here.  Let’s jist say you’re much better off shoplifting in the US.  Both are looking at serious jail time in China.  Kid is driving a Ferrari and he does this.  Beyond stupidity.

Daddy Ball may be right about the Ball boys being one and done at UCLA.  This one may not make it past opening week.  He could have a few years in China.  Btw, these boys not on flight back to US with their team.

Thank you for that info!  The wife and I were talking about that earlier and wondering if they would let them out of there.  Can’t blame the Chinese.  No way Lavar has him ever go back without an international event.   Scary thing is he might not be coming home anytime soon.

As a world super power China has awareness of their image, public relations, etc.  The cold war is over or has thawed, whupping the US image as the great immoral satan will only get you so far these days.  N Korea would opt for that, but there's nothing to shop lift in N Korea, among other things.

In short, I think they will let them go.  No one knows who the other  two players involved are, just the Ball kid.

China is not communist anymore.  They have many millionaires & billionaires.  I don't know what they are.  A totalitarian socialist, capitalist society, best I can tell.

What is China?  That's a good question, although many news outlets still refer to it as communist.  This is way out of my field of knowledge, but here's how it appears to me:

They've  blended communism and capitalism.  How they did it is a mystery.  The Govt still rules with an iron communist hand.  Socially, I see them as communist, but financially as capitalist.  I don't know what you call it.  I think it's something totally new.  The biggest question to me is how long will it last?  It's new.  Everyone's excited, and playing by the rules.  But someday the millionaires & billionaires are going to think themselves better than the communist leadership, and I anticipate assassination attempts, or a bought and paid for Coup thru the military.  That'll be down the road a ways, when the $rich$ are 2nd or 3rd generation.

Kind of funny, me sitting here predicting all this.  Don't know much economics, or truly how the Chinese are doing what they're doing, but I have studied a wee bit of history, and that's how I see it.  Oh, one other thing, they're on a meteoric rise, while America is self destructing, so in the near future, China will replace us as the world's leader.  You heard it first.  Right here.  From an old man in Evadale, Tx.

Trump has reached out to Xi to try and get this worked out. Charges have been reduced and should be over soon. Wonder if Lavar Ball makes a statement thanking Trump for getting his son out of trouble.
