The Newton Eagles can one step closer to a possible Class 3A, Division II state championship berth as they take on the Rice Bulldogs in area round play.  W.T. Johnston's Eagles, 10-0 on the season, advanced to this round with a 58-0 win over Arp.  Meanwhile, the Bulldogs, 7-4 on the season and the runner ups out of District 11-3A-II, advanced to this round with a 44-22 win over Bruceville-Eddy last week, 44-22.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the West Rusk/Buffalo area round match up which will also be played this afternoon.
