The mother is dealing with grief, so I can forgive her. So she needs to see that the man was protecting his family and she needs to accept that her son was wrong and brought all 5 shots upon himself.

I figure if I haven't hit 'em after 7 shots, I may as well throw the gun at 'em. 

Who says this man protecting his family (good for him btw) was a good shot? He may have hit the guy 4 times in the leg and finally delivered the show stopper with the 5th.

Side note: friend of mine has a FN with a 21 round clip. I got tired of shooting it at the range. Lol. Sweet gun though.
