KFDM COOP Posted April 2, 2006 Report Posted April 2, 2006 Durant helps West defeat East 112-94 Future Longhorn scores 25 points to lead winners at McDonald's game SAN DIEGO - Kevin Durant scored 25 points to carry the West to a 112-94 victory over the East on Wednesday night in the McDonald's All-American basketball game. The 6-10 Durant, who is heading to Texas, scored 11 of his points during a 17-0 run in the second half that carried the West to an 89-76 lead with eight minutes left in the game. Durant, of Suitland, Md., was the game's co-MVP along with Chase Budinger of Encinitas, Calif., who had 11 points and four assists. Budinger will attend Arizona. Daequan Cook, an Ohio State recruit, scored 17 points, and Spencer Hawes and Sherron Collins each had 11. Greg Oden, a 7-footer from Indianapolis who is heading to Ohio State, had 10 points. Earlier, Stanford-bound Jayne Appel scored 12 points, had seven rebounds and blocked two shots as the West defeated the East 80-76 in the girls game. The 6-4 Appel, from Pleasant Hill, Calif., was named the MVP. She hit three consecutive shots midway through the second half to give the West a 51-47 lead. Dymon Simon, an Arizona State signee, scored 14 points, and Amanda Thompson had 11 points for the West. Abi Olajuwon, daughter of Rockets great Hakeem Olajuwon, had eight points and five rebounds.
