KFDM COOP Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Richard, Donahoe, Netherly head area all-state choicesBy Dave Rogers The Port Arthur News Ozen’s Kris Richard, Hardin-Jefferson’s Ryan Donahoe and Richard Netherly of West Orange-Stark all earned all-state honors by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, the group announced earlier this week. Richard won the James Gamble Mr. Outside Award last year as the top perimeter player in Southeast Texas while Donahoe and Netherly were finalists for the honors. Others with area ties earning all-state plaudits from TABC include Mike Singletary from District 21-5A champion Kingwood and, in 2A, two players each from Kountze – Cameron Powell and Clayton Busby – and East Chambers – Tramain Thomas and Preston Guillory. Brandon Letsinger was all-state from Class A West Hardin. Girls all-staters from Southeast Texas were few: Lumberton’s Courtney Wilson in 4A, and in 3A, Brittney Scott of WO-S, Kristy Sanders of Orangefield, Ang Green of Silsbee, and Denetra Kellum of Kirbyville. Memorial’s J’Covan Brown was picked to the TABC All-Region III team, an honor shared with the area’s eight all-state players and five others. A total of 13 area players earned all-region honors, including Hamshire-Fannett’s Memri Carmon. Singletary, a 6-5 Texas Tech signee, was named MVP of the All-District 21-5A team, which included Brown and teammate Jacovin Buckner as first-teamers, along with Roman Antoine of West Brook. Memorial’s Charles Wise was a second-team pick.Donahoe was the MVP of the All-District 21-3A team for the second year in a row, just like Netherly was the offensive MVP for the second straight time. Trahan and Busby shared MVP honors in District 24-2A.The All-District 22-4A team has not yet been selected.Humble’s Kayla Williams was the 21-5A girls’ MVP, with Memorial’s Britany Kinlaw and Treasure Eddie and the West Brook duo of Whitney Williams and India Thomas first-team picks. Lady Titans Amber Kinlaw and Elexsia Roberts were second-team picks.For the second year in a row, Wilson was MVP and Pickering offensive player of the year on the All-District 22-4A team. Scott was named MVP in 21-3A.
