Guest Kelly Football Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Roger Clemens is Dishonoring the GameThis whole "I'll wait and decide in May whether or not I'm coming back" is a load of absolute crud. Clemens has had a tremendous career, but nobody is good enough to call shots like he is calling. No one in the history of the game has ever had a contract like that until he came along. What a joke! I just wonder what Nolan Ryan thinks.
lonestar Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Yeah, I really wish the Astros would move on. However, with the questions and concerns re: the 4th and 5th starter, I see the temptation.
KFDM COOP Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I agree! Come on Roger make up your mind.
formerpirate Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I don't know if he is dishonoring the game, but he isn't helping his image. But contracts with all the stipulations and clauses have been going on for quite some time. When Bonds got to SF, he had a clause in his contract that gave him his own personal room in the clubhouse with a big screen TV and a recliner that nobody could go into unless he said so. There are many little tidbits in contracts that seem unnecessary, but it caters to the players to get them to sign more easily. Dice-K's contract is insane. He gets paid flights back and forth to Japan for him to visit, and for his family to visit the states, unlimited flights I think. He gets his own personal interpreter, and tons of other stuff I can't even remember. Everything about contracts in baseball is getting out of hand.

IMO, contracts in ALL pro sports are getting out of hand, not just baseball.
formerpirate Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 IMO, contracts in ALL pro sports are getting out of hand, not just baseball. Very true.
Guest WBFan09 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 if you want to play, play....if you dont want to, dont!!!15 rounds of golf at the most expensive courses will not help you decide one way or the other!!!
Guest Diva Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 WooHoo!! You tell 'em WBFan09!! I hit your karma with applause for that one. ;D
adminbaberuth Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I don't know if he is dishonoring the game, but he isn't helping his image. Image, he's liked about like Cobb was. Roger is for Roger, until he can't get anyone out, the owners will pay him to put butts in those seats.
AgsRock Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 like it or not, Clemens is still one of the best pitchers...ever...i dont like his shenanigans any more than you do, but do understand that he is older than dirt and may need some time to get ready
frosty Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 i dont wanna hear the age excuse, he is one year older than randy johnson and 5 years YOUNGER than julio franco and they can show up to in the spring on a roster. the guys great but there comes a point when it just becomes rediculous to put it off until atleast may. any team would be better w/ him on the staff but be reasonable. could you imagine if he held out and all the teams pulled back their offers lol (i know it wont ever happen)
Guest Diva Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I'm just tired of the whole greed factor, and not just with Clemens. I don't care how old or young you are or how good you are, DON'T BE GREEDY! If you love the game, play the game. If you are in it for the money, stay out of it. I'm fully aware that people have to make a living and that this is a business. I also understand being smart with your business moves to position yourself to be finanacially well off. That's only smart. But greed is a totally different thing.
formerpirate Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Image, he's liked about like Cobb was. Roger is for Roger, until he can't get anyone out, the owners will pay him to put butts in those seats.True, but you see how important image is in getting in the Hall or other accolades after your career. The last thing you do is what people usually remember you by.
Underdawg Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I think Roger has taken this a little far, if you're not in good enough health to perform in the whole season then your not needed! This is a team sports, it celebrates the fact that grown men can come together for a common goal, and what are you teaching kids, if you're good enough we'll make exceptions, we'll wait for you since your so good, you don't have to be a team player, you don't have to stay when you're not pitching because it's all about YOU! B/S
SuperflySnuka Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 By not pitching the beginning of the season last year he let his team down. How many more wins would the 'Stros have had if he pitched the complete season last year. Where would they have been in the playoff race with a full-season Roger?
Morgan Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 he is doing nothing but ruining his HOF resume.......he shoulda retired 2 years ago after his good year but he insists on coming back, he is a great pitcher but he doesnt have it anymore, he should just hang up his spikes and call it a career
Guest tigersvoice Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 If there is a team out there that will pay you $18 mil a year for half a season and will agree to all your wants and wishes - well, you see, he just can't hang 'em up until that pit runs dry.
