The Wildcatters come into this week with a record of 36-20-9 for 81 points, just two points behind the Gwinnett Gladiators for first. The Gladiators come into Southeast Texas for two games this weekend. Forwards Kevin Baker and Mike Bayrack lead the Wildcatters in scoring with 72 points while Baker is number one on the team with 32 goals. Goaltender Matt Yeats is in the top five of ECHL goaltenders with 27 wins. This Week’s Games Friday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 24 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Gwinnett The high powered first place Gwinnett Gladiators come to Southeast Texas to conclude the season series. The Gladiators have a record 38-19-7 for 83 points. Gwinnett is currently in first place in the South Division and has the best offense in the ECHL. The Gladiators lead the league with 265 goals scored. The Wildcatters won both meetings in Ford Arena this season which occurred back in November. Texas is 3-3-0 against Gwinnett in the season series. The Gladiators are led by the top two scorers in the ECHL. Brad Schell leads the league with 85 assists and 110 points while Scott Mifsud is second with 88 points. Goaltenders Dave Caruso and Dan Turple have equally split playing time. Each has participated in 32 games. Upcoming Promotions Friday, Mar. 23 – Time Warner Night Saturday, Mar. 24 – Better Housing Night – The first 1,000 fans receive Wildcatters posters. Game Worn Jersey Auction Following Game – Directly following the game on Saturday night, each Wildcatters player will take the jersey right off his back, sign it and then it will be auctioned off. The live auction will give fans the opportunity to bid on their favorite player’s game worn jerseys. The mustard jersey will be auctioned off. Knock the Socks Off the Gladiators – Receive $5 off your ticket price on Saturday night with the donation of a NEW package of socks or other gently used clothing items benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. The Bridge City Strutters from Bridge City High School will be performing at the game. Friday, Mar. 30 – Entergy Night and Project Graduation Night – The first 1,000 fans receive a novelty hardhat compliments of Entergy. Fridays are Student Night with the Wildcatters - High School and College students can purchase tickets for just $10 with their student ID cards (excluding glass seats). “Tip-A-Catter†on Monday, March 26 The Wildcatters trade in their skates for a good cause as they present “Tip-A-Catter.†The Wildcatters players will be your celebrity waiters at Johnny Carino’s on Monday, March 26 from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are just $12 and each ticket will receive one entrée. You can purchase your tickets at the Fan Information Booth at all home games or call the Wildcatters at 409-951-5500. All gratuities and a portion of the meal proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Galveston. Last week – Wildcatters Split two games with Augusta Friday, March 16 vs. Augusta 6-4 Win Ben Thomson scored three goals for the hat trick in his first game as a Wildcatter as Texas defeated Augusta 6-4 in front of 1,491 at Ford Arena. Thomson who started his rookie season in Houston was reassigned by the AHL’s Aeros and shined in his first game with Texas. Thomson opened the scoring just 3:13 in with a power play goal from Olivier Proulx and Daniel Sparre. Colin Nicholson scored his fourth goal in his last seven games five minutes later to make it 2-0 Wildcatters. After Augusta got on the board, Thomson added his second of the game at the 13:37 mark to give the ‘Catters a 3-1 lead. After Louis Goulet of the Lynx cut the lead to one, Thomson netted his third for the hat trick. It was another power play goal as the Wildcatters led 4-2. The teams would trade goals in the third period as Brandin Cote and Kevin Baker scored for Texas. The ‘Catters went on for the 6-4 win. Daniel Sparre and Olivier Proulx had three assists in the victory. Texas concluded the game 3 for 10 on the power play while Augusta went 1 for 9. Miroslav Kopriva made 30 saves in his first game with the Wildcatters since January 21. Saturday, March 17 vs. Augusta 2-0 Loss Rookie goaltender Dave McKee made 42 saves for his first professional shut out as the Augusta Lynx shut out the Wildcatters 2-0 in front of 2,118 at Ford Arena. McKee was strong all night in net as he earned his 27th win of the season, blanking the ‘Catters. Garrett Bembridge and Greg Watson scored the goals for Augusta. Bembridge’s came 6:29 into the game on the power play from Sean Blanchard and Shane Hynes. Then in the second period, Greg Watson scored his 11th of the season from Blanchard and Joe Pereira. That’s all the Lynx would need as they held on for the 2-0 win. Matt Yeats made 32 saves in the loss for the Wildcatters. Augusta went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Wildcatters went 0 for 6. Texas finished the season series against Augusta 3-2-2.
