I'll take 12 yards on every pass play.

Me too.  But Dak’s completion % to Dez was 52%.  So 52% completion percentage, 12 yds a catch, 7 touchdowns a year, 60 catches a year, 800 yds a year.

Romo’s last three healthy seasons: 65% completion to Dez, 14.5 yds a catch, 14 touchdowns a year, 91 catches a year, 1310 yds a year.

I’m not great at the maths, but it’s pretty obvious how bad Dak was at effectively using Dez compared to Romo.

Right as rain, bullets. Completion percentages figure in drops also. T.O. led the league in TD receptions and drops yet he claimed he wasn't getting the ball. Bet those Romo stats stunk too. Some stats can be very misleading.

There were several other tangibles that figured into Dak's ineffectiveness. The one thing that sticks out to me was pass protection. No one is saying Dak is better than Romo, but in Dak's rookie year, winning 11 in a row was no fluke. Let's get all the pieces to the puzzle. We will be fine with Dak.

Dak is not good. Dallas is going to have to lean on Zeke as much as possible. However much he can physically handle.. Very solid rookie season, but Vince Young also won 11 games as a rookie. Teams get film, make adjustments, yadda yadda yadda. Simple fact is Dak is not a good enough passer to be "the man". Dallas can win some games with him at QB, but he is not and never will be "elite".

Dallas finishes 9-7 (at best). Jason Garrett gets an extension. The Cowboy way.

He (Dez) also had 12 drops last season, highest in the league.  He also has a tendency to scream at the qb when he's not getting the ball.  I wouldn't throw much to him either.  Big surprise that he isn't on a team yet and the season starts in two weeks.

Was VY considered for the MVP with his 11 wins (that weren't in a row). Maybe you will say it is not fair to judge Dak by his rookie season, but I will say it is not fair to judge him on his sophomore year either. Let's put a healthy Dallas team on the field and see what Dak can do. How many other QBs reached “elite” status in their 3rd year? Look at Aikman's 1st year. He stunk it up without a team around him. After the Walker trade, he became elite pretty darn quick. Who did they lean on.....Emmitt Smith.

No, he won Rookie of the Year, and had a lot less talent around him than Dak did. That is neither here not there though. Dak can be functional, if they lean heavily on Zeke. Too many times last year Dak was asked to do too much. He isn't they guy you want throwing it 25-30 times a game.

Ok, I can agree with that. I liked VY. Hate he couldn't get his head straight.

Many of those drops were poorly thrown balls.  I want Dak to be good.  I’m a huge cowboy fan.  I’m no Dez apologist either.  But the numbers are blatantly clear that his production decrease is a result of Dak’s inability to consistently throw a good ball down the field.  I actually just found a video on Facebook of every incompletion from Dak to Dez last season.  I watched about 4 min of it and turned it off, but the amount of poorly thrown balls was alarming.   Dez was constantly having to adjust his body to account for passes being under/overthrown, low passes, high passes, wobbly passes, and plenty where Dak missed the window so badly that Dez had no shot at all.

Speaking of pass protection, Romo put up hall of fame numbers in a career where he had almost zero pass protection, a mediocre running game, and a defense that lost him multiple games a year where he put up 28 points or more.  The shame for Romo is that when the cowboys finally put a line in front of him and a back who could run was when he started getting hurt.  Dak is still young, but the team he struggled with last year was still way better than 90% of the teams Tony played with in his career, even with the Zeke suspension and the injuries to the O-line.  I hope Dak gets it together, but I don’t see him being much more than a decent game manager.

Wow, am I the only one who would watch Mississippi State, if they were on, and consider myself lucky to watch Dak Prescott? Only time will tell, but I can't keep arguing the Romo/Prescott debate. Cowboys thought Dak was better at the time, and that's good enough for me...... and I was a huge Romo fan.

This isn't college. We all felt lucky to watch Tebow, VY, Manziel...etc. He had one outstanding year at Mississippi State. His last year there he was, eh. There is no comparison to Romo/Prescott. Romo was an actual NFL level QB who could sling the rock. Prescott is laughable with passes over 15 yards. They are not even in the same stratosphere. Game manager at best, with a little more mobility than the average game manager.

Zach Martin hyper extended his knee.  No major damage.  Should be fine.

Xavier Woods injured his hamstring.  First report is out 2-4 weeks.

Jameill Showers injured his knee.  Looks like an ACL but no official word yet.

Haven't heard any news on the other injuries from the cincinnati game.

I know it isn't college. Manziel and VY, i could watch all the time. Dak and Tebow, not so much. I loved watching the big guy move very fluidly and standing tall in the pocket. I was so happy we picked him and he showed the NFL what he could do. To crucify him for having a sub par season is what is laughable. Terry Bradshaw was actually laughed off the field in Pittsbutgh. Athletes struggle to find their niche, but I don't give up on them unless they continue struggling or even get worse. Here are just a few passes that Dak made his rookie year. How many rookie QBs look this good? You know I'm going to stay with Dak because I have seen what he is capable of doing in the NFL and I believe he still can. Plus I am biased for my Cowboys. Watch these plays and listen to what the announcers have to say...

Time will tell. 3rd year in the league usually shows what a player is.

Face it fellas, Dallas sucks, nothing personal. They just aren't any good. Dak....eh game manager, No WRS (shut up about the rookie you have no idea about), O-Line is banged up...probably no Frederick for the year, the defense.....you already know the defense has been trash since pre-Romo (he could only cover up so much), the entire coaching staff is trash...led by the red dumpster, Jason Garrett. Awful GM, great owner, but flat awful GM, who has he brought in? What has he done in the last decade? Ah he drafted Dak, yeah well Dak sucks. 9-7 at best. Another extension for Garrett for doing such a mediocre job.

Good luck Zeke...good luck.

Dang, the haters always know more about my team than I do. Unbelievable. So many teams pray for 9-7. I say 11-5, but hey, I'm prejudiced and a die hard. Just keep watching your Texans. Team to beat....Jacksonville.

I don't think teams "pray" to be 9-7. I would guess either play-offs or highest draft pick possible. Cleveland would rather be 1-15 than 9-7. And any 9-7 team not in the play offs would rather be 0-16.

11-5!! Cowboy fans are so delusional. They would be lucky to win 11 games if they played the season twice.  There is no way, you truly believe this Dallas Cowboys team can win 11 games..

The defense looked really good again vs arizona.  IF Randy Gregory can continue to stay on the field he will be a huge problem for opposing OT's.  Here are his stats from the game:

In the first quarter alone, he had two tackles, one sack, one QB hit, one tackle for loss. By game’s end, probably playing right at a scheduled 20 snaps, he added another tackle and another QB hit. (thanks to dallascowboys.com for the stats)

The defense is young and the guys are playing fast.  Here are some defensive stats from the preseason so far:

-The COWBOYS defense didn't allow a point to the cardinals in the first quarter and in one possession of the 2nd quarter.

-During this time the COWBOYS held the cardinals to 37 total yards.  24 rushing and 13 passing.

-Now then, if you add those totals to the previous two-game totals, encompassing three quarters, you have four quarters of football, along with one possession, and the Cowboys have given up no points and just 156 total yards – 62 rushing and 94 passing.

I know it's just preseason but I sure hope they can continue this dominance when the regular season begins.

Of course I can. I am the eternal fan. If I don't think my team can win the superbowl every year, why the hell am I watching.....looking for that proverbial 9-7? Delusional is predicting a perfect season. At least I said 11-5, which puts most teams in the playoffs with maybe a bye. I haven't gotten to see a full fledged offense play yet and have not been watching for that reason. People who paid to see them play should ask for their money back (yeah, I know the retort for that) lol
