The weekly series started last year in 22-4A.  As to the why...I'm not sure but I have heard that the majority of coaches prefer this format.

Anyone know when Hamm is expected to return to the lineup

 I am pretty sure the reason for the weekly series is due to the new pitch count rules that went into effect.  Coaches can keep up with their opponents  pitch counts much more effectively if they play the same team twice that week, as opposed to relying on information from another party on what pitcher throws how many pitches.

The pitch count rule was implemented last year.  This is the first year for teams to play each other twice in the same week.
