****THOMAS BROOKS NEW JASPER COACH!!***

SETXSPORTS.COM WAS THE FIRST TO REPORT THE STORY!!

Smoaky.com and setxsports.com has learned John Tyler head football coach Thomas Brooks has accepted at Jasper High School.

Brooks met with his assistants Monday morning and according to one coach said, "this is the toughest decision I've ever had to make, but I have to do what's best for my family."

He informed his players during athletic period on Monday after meeting with John Tyler principal Dr. Mike McFarland.

When contacted before the press conference, Coach Brooks said, "This was the hardest one, I thought it would never be more difficult than when I left Jasper...but today was one of the hardest days of my life. We had some changes here at John Tyler that really affected my change of heart, including Dr. McFarland leaving for Illinois. In the past, principal changes have not gone well for me...I rely on a principal's philosophy as much as anything when looking at a job, and Dr. McFarland and I had very similar views, we aren't win at all cost people...it should always be about the kids. This decision will also allow me to be closer to my mom, and that's a big deal at this time, and I've never been an athletic director either, and that opportunity is also there for me in Jasper."

Approval at board meeting was Tuesday at Noon.

This is a great move for Jasper.   Thomas did what was right for his family regardless of the fact that he will not make as much money.  Thank goodness he is going with his HEART and not his portfolio.  Congrats to Thomas and Jasper.  There is no price that can be put on happiness.  Jasper just got LOTS better.

Congrats to coach Brooks. Glad we were able to beat Jasper when we did. Because now they will be better.

Kirbyville has turned the corner and will continue to compete very well now that they know that they can.  The year that Jasper was "all world" and only beat the Wildcats 14-0 was the difference.  It showed those kids that Jasper was beatable.

Best hire Jasper could have ever made.

It is a reversal for sure.  Always in the past it was coaches leaving Jasper for bigger schools.  To have a coach move from 5a down to 3a is simply mind blowing.  For one thing, I think it is complimentary of the talent level in Jasper.  I hope he finds great success in Jasper, and finishes out his career in Jasper.

I think without a doubt he will bring new enthusiasm to Jasper.  Maybe he will set up his "recruiting" desk out in the hall like he did at TJT and get some of those players back who might have played, but didn't.  :)  I just believe that Jasper still has better numbers than we have been seeing on the football field.
