KFDM COOP
Hearn, Bears get past Bulldogs, 4-2Gabriel PruettThe Orange LeaderLITTLE CYPRESS — For practically all his life the Nederland Bulldogs have been Kris Hearn’s bitter rival.Hearn moved from Port Neches-Groves to Little Cypress-Mauriceville this year and Tuesday night he got the chance to face the Bulldogs again at Don Gibbens Field. With two down in the bottom of the sixth of a tie ball game, Hearn delivered a two-run single to left field giving the Bears a 4-2 win.It was Hearn who just last week watched a third-called strike in a 4-2 loss against his former Indians to end the game as the Indians also picked of a runner at third.Hearn got his redemption on Tuesday.“It feels great after we lost our first district game and now have rolled off four in a row,†Hearn said. “It is a good start and I just hope we keep it up. I wanted a hit in a bad way during that at bat. The game could have possibly went into extra innings.â€The Bears (17-3, 4-1) led 2-0 heading into the sixth inning but LC-M relief pitcher Adam Leggett walked Nederland’s (6-9, 1-4) lead off batter, Beau Helmke.Helmke took second on a sacrifice and with two down Aaron McFarland blistered a RBI double to the left field fence. McFarland eventually made it 2-2 by taking third and scoring on two wild pitches. The Bears struck first in the bottom of the second when Matt Johnson led off by reaching on an error.Tim Barry then moved Johnson over with a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. With two down, Jon Gunn blasted a RBI single to center field giving Johnson more than enough time to score. The two team’s pitching then settled in as in the third and fourth innings as a total of only four players got on base.LC-M senior catcher Jake Rowell ended the drought in a big way. With two down in the bottom of the fifth Rowell took a 2-1 offering from Helmke over the center field fence giving the Bears a 2-2 cushion.“Everytime we play a Mid-County team it is a good game,†LC-M Coach Steve Griffith said. “We are real fortunate to get out of this one with a win. Going into the year we did not know what kind of season we were going to have. We know feel real good with this group of boys and I hope they finish it out and have a year they can be proud of since they have worked so hard.â€Hearn’s heroics were set up when Johnson drew a walk and Barry reached on a fielder’s choice that moved Johnson to second. After Gunn hit a two-out infield single, Hearn stepped up and erased all bad thoughts of last week.“Today he (Matt) got the big hit in a big win,†Griffith said. “We are real proud of what he got to accomplish tonight.â€The loss was a tough one for Helmke who pitched a gem for the Bulldogs by going the distance and allowing seven hits but he struck out nine batters and only walked two Bears.Dallas Brown started on the hill for the Bears and went 3 1/3 innings and gave up two hits, one walk and no runs to go with two strike outs.Leggett did the rest and allowed just two hits, two runs and two walks to go along with one strike out.Brown left the game in the top of the fourth after walking one batter and getting a quick 2-0 count on the next.Leggett then picked up two quick strikes and got Aaron McFarland to hit into a double play. The Bears return to action Friday when they travel to face the Lumberton Raiders.Tuesday will once again be a big night at Don Gibbens Field when LC-M plays host to the Vidor Pirates. The Pirates (14-4, 3-2) were 7-4 losers to the PN-G Indians (12-7, 5-0) on Tuesday.Dayton (13-5, 4-1) stayed locked in a tie for second in district play with a 14-3 beating of Beaumont Central. The Voice
Good job Bears. Big hit Hearn. Big bomb Rowell. Big Defense Bears. But the young man that keeps stepping up in big games is Jon "chck chck" Gunn. LCM's 9 hole hitter is showing the leather and the stick. Bottom of 6, 2 outs, Gunn hits a nubber duck fart that the ss couldnot handle, which set up Hearn. Congrats To the Bears. Griffith and Stevenson finding a way to win. Good job. ;D

mekih
Home plate ump here too. This was a bunt with runners on 1b and 2b. It resulted in a great play by the Dogs, with 1b Bellows fielding the ball and throwing the ball to SS Sampere who can be seen charging to 3rd to cover the bag as 3b McFarland is coming forward on the play. They got the force at 3rd. Nederland played that play to perfection.
