I never post our own stories, many because I feel funny about doing so. This one I wanted to because of how great a game she had. Enjoy

The Orange Leader

LAKE CHARLES (La.) - She may have traded in her green for purple, but Cody Trahan is still "golden."

Trahan, who helped lead the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears to the Class 4A state softball title from the mound just this past summer, is making waves as a freshman for the sixth-ranked NCAA team in the nation.

Trahan made her fourth start for the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers in somewhat of a homecoming against the McNeese State University Cowgirls Wednesday night and she passed once again with flying colors.

Trahan tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three and the Lady Tigers took advantage of a grand slam by shortstop Andrea Smith in the second inning as LSU took down the Lady Cowgirls 6-0.

There was a record crowd of 847 at the contest, with much of the crowd hailing from across the Sabine River to watch their favorite pitcher throw.

"I'll admit, I was a little nervous," Trahan said. "After the first inning, it was okay because I felt like I was right back at home again with all the familiar faces. To see all the support and the signs that were made in supporting not only me but the team as well, that was awesome."

Trahan now owns a perfect 4-0 mark on the season. In 27 innings of work, she has yet to yield an earned run, She's allowed just eight hits and has struck out 45 and walked just nine."

Trahan has enjoyed her first season with the Lady Tigers and long-time coach Yvette Girouard.

"It's been a great season and my teammates are just a blast to hang around with," Trahan said. "After the spring break, Coach Girouard stressed to the freshmen how they are no longer considered freshmen anymore. She has a lot of faith in everyone's skills. All of my teammates, they have really helped me to fit in."

In high school Trahan was on the mound and in the batting order every single Tuesday and Friday night. This season, without question, has been a season of adjustment.

Senior All-American Emily Turner (11-4, 1.37 ERA) and sophomore DanI Hofer (12-1, 1:31 ERA) have received the bulk of the work with all of their valuable experience in Southeast Conference wars.

"Not getting all of the playing time has been the biggest adjustment for me but I know my time will come,"Trahan said. "We have such a deep and talented staff and working with Emily and Dani has only helped me improve on the mound. My teammates were with me all the way tonight with all my family and friends here, they knew how special the moment was for me."

The Lady Tigers improved to 32-5 for the season and currently lead the Western Division of the SEC with a 7-2 record after taking two-of-three against Alabama last weekend.

The Lady Cowgirls fell to 14-24 overall and are 4-5 in Southland Conference play. LSU defeated the Cowgirls in Baton Rouge 7-1 back on March 7.

The Lady Tigers exploded on Lady Cowgirl starter Cori Bram in the top of the second frame.

Killian Roessner drew a leadoff walk and Taylor Hollis followed with a deep double to right. Bram then hit Kristen Hobbs to load the bases and then hit Shannon Stein with the bases loaded, allowing Roessner to score.

Lady Tiger shortstop Andrea Smith added to the onslaught by crushing a Bram offering over the left-field fence, clearing the bases for a grand slam to up the LSU lead to 5-0.

LSU added some insurance in the seventh.

Quinlan Duhon lead off with a infield single and later scored on an RBI double to left by Leslie Klein.

McNeese's Rachel King had two hits for her squad, one in the second inning and the other in the seventh while Jana Jones had a single in the fourth

Cori Bram absorbed the loss on the hill for McNeese. She pitched three innings, allowing three hits while striking out three and walking two. Jones hurled the final four frames, allowing four hits while striking out one.
