#COUGAR08
West Hardin posted last night that sabine pass cancelled football this season, and that they will release a new schedule asap.. but no reason as to why they did
Spyder53
After I read the season previews and saw the turnout I told my wife they should cancel football. They just don't have the numbers. There aren't enough kids to scrimmage in practice, not enough kids big enough to play on the lines. There's no JV or freshman teams, which makes it dangerous because you have kids going from middle school football to varsityย who aren't ready for JV and in some cases aren't ready for freshman football. I hate to see it because you have kids that want to play just not enough of them. I thank God there were no major injuries before they pulled the plug. olddognewtricks
Why dont they go to 6 man football ifย the program numbers are that low. Definitely need to talk to UIL.
Spyder53
I think they should do like Big Sandy and focus on Basketball and Baseball if you have 8 kids that are decent you can compete, if you have 10 you have a chance to do something. oldschool2
Good. ย They have no reason to play football anyway. ย Other than to be a laughing stock and possibly get kids hurt. Sad news for the rest of the teams they wouldโve played that were counting on that win.

Go-rilla
Lets be honest there is about 15 too many high schools in setx. Need to send kids to nearby more stable schools. There is also about 100 schools in Texas that should not have teams. Kids getting beat 50-0 weekly is not a good thing. Alpha Wolf

If a school does not offer a sport and you transfer to the nearest geographical school that offers that sport, there is not a 1 year requirement. I think. Tigers2010
That would mean...PA? Out of the 12 players SP had how many could contribute to PAM. That is a hell of a leap in competition.ย Alpha Wolf

purpleeagle
Sabine Pass has the numbers to compete in 2A-2. (138).Kids lose interest with a losing program. They cannot go 6 man. Numbers to high. Burkeville could and should go 6 man (74) kids in high school.

I wasย attacked for that opinionย of course.ย From most people on here.ย I have changed my mind somewhat but still feel that the idea remains justified.ย Kids no longer learn how to compete for anything, which can be detrimental when they get out of high school.ย Your statement is a good example of just what I'm saying.ย If a kid truly wants to play football and is willing to do what it takes to become a better athlete, compete for a spot, and be held accountable...then yes.ย They should get to experience the Friday night lights..as you put it.ย However...at schools like Sabine Pass all you have to do is show up..maybe not even that..and you can get you a letterman jacket.ย To me that's quite a disservice to most kids around the country who have to work their tails off and earn a spot on whatever football team they play for.ย Or any other activiy..even valedictorian/salutatorian.ย Alpha Wolf
Tigers2010
If your academic performance is lower than your PPG average, you shouldn't be allowed to play extra curriculars. That may not be the case with SP, but there a several who clearly only care about one things, and the future of the athletes/students don't seem to be it.
