SFA Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 It has been a while since our area has produced a D-1 college soccer signee. I very much hope Messer’s. Kirby, Uribe or Waldrup break that streak in 08. Who else in the current junior class might be looking to play in college? What other underclassmen from 09’ and 10’ have the ability and desire to follow them? It would be interesting to hear from the coaches if they know about what players are being looked at and who has the potential.
Jsmity Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 All three of those guys could play college soccer for sure... the thing with soccer is... you have to make the incentive to get looked at... those guys need to start sending out tapes and contacting schools ASAP!!!!!!!
Bon_Mot Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 SFA, in your post you said It has been a while since our area has produced a D-1 college soccer signee. How many D1 guys at all can you name in the past 20 years that have come from this area. I can think of only one maybe two. I understand that you are not satisfied with the status of soccer in this area, but the Triangle has sent plenty of kids off to college to play soccer at various levels. I don't know what your angle is to this thread, but the fact that the ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS has only ONE D1 program just shows you how limited the opportunities to play D1 soccer are.
Jsmity Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I aggree also... plus that D-I program just so happens to be one of the best in the country... and no offense to those guys mentioned b4... they might as well go ahead and get any thoughts of playing at SMU out of their heads....
jcb6790 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 well you cant say that completly because Notre Dame, who last year went to the quarterfinals and SMU only went to the second round(eventhough they lost to Santa Barbara who went on to win it), is shown interest in Kirby. I know that SMU and Notre Dame are two different schools and in different areas but they, in my opinion, both have very strong soccer programs, so to say that a school at the calibur of SMU is out of Kirbys reach would be wrong
sharkfutbol Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Lance watson went to U of New Mexico and to the national Championship game. Other than that I cant think of anyone in the past ten years who have made it to div one. Really I cant think of anyone in the last twenty years. Kirby and Yeayea may have the ability but getting a look is what s the trick. ODP is a ticket to the div one schools taking a look at you. However Watson never did the ODP but however made it on his work ethic. Sending tapes isnt going to really do a whole lot unless you have talked or spoken to the coach and told him your intent. How many tapes do you think these schools get each year by kids just sending them out randomly. Way too many for them to look.. In the past I have helped many of my club players go off and play and can guarantee you that the coaches will not watch a tape of agame. They want about a five minute tape of some highltes of the kid playing. Not doing cuts and shots in back of the net but will tell you they want to see you away from the ball not a parent filming their kids feet and scoring against a crap team Next have a coach or trainer with some knowledge of the game contact the coach so as not to come across as a fool to the college coach. Second they do not want to see a form letter saying... I want to play college soccer and would love to play for you.. here is a tape thanks.... If any of you would like help getting a look or what to do to get a look. Private message me and I will gladly help as i have had many players go off and play and more get the opportunity but not go ... and have contacted a whole lot of coaches in the past. Set your goals and sights realistic and find a college you CAN play at not WANT to play at.
Jsmity Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Unless they play ODP then they dont really have a shot at really good D-I.... they could however get a shot at a not so strong D-I program...but... a coach would have had to see a tournement or a high school game played.... how many D-I coaches in the country are at these tournements... not alot.. there are some.. but not as much as at others... if thier high school squads would have played in a dif. area or gone futher into the playoffs than the first couple of round... then that wouldve given little more exposure.. but to probably some D-II or D-III or NAIA teams... and there is nothing wrong with playing at that level... I play D-II soccer right now with players from all over the world against and on my team... its been a great oppertunity and has expanded my level of play... Many MLS and USL players come from that level... and I assure the teams that we play (and the other teams accross the country) are far better than what you have played against or with.. ever yplayer is just as good or better than the players you are used to... and I think there are some players from the area that could have the same oppertunity if they put the effort in... why not at least try???... at least have a shot at it...
