ON THIS DATE (April 7th) IN BASEBALL HISTORY

In 1969, Bill Singer of the Dodgers is credited with the first official "save", in a 3-2 Dodger win over Cincinnati.

In 1971, the dismissal of Curt Flood's suit against MLB is upheld by a 3-judge U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals. All of today's multi-million dollar contract's that these player's are reaping today can be attributed to the sacrifice that Curt Flood made.

In 1979, the earliest no-hitter is pitched today by Ken Forsch of the Astros, as the Braves get collared, 6-0. Ken joins his brother Bob, who hurled a no-hitter in 1978 versus the Phillies, as the first brothers to hurl no-hit games.

In 1986 at Tiger Stadium, the Red Sox's Dwight Evans achieves a major league first when he homers off of the Tigers Jack Morris on the first pitch of the season !!
