We want to beat the hell out of everyone, even if it doesn't work that way. A victory against Nederland is only a district W and district is never the goal. District should be expected, especially when you have such highly ranked and rated Qbs coming out PNG every few years. Nederland is not that important, as satisfying a W against them is. Shug's list of goals as an 8th grader was to be starting Qb by 10th grade, break PNG records, become the best player there ever, become the Longhorns 2019 Qb recruit, and take this team to a state championship win. He was able to do all but one. Beating Nederland wasn't on that list because in the grand scheme of all those lofty goals, winning against a district foe was much too small and to be honest, expected. Maybe when PNG as a whole gets this mentality again some big changes can be made. CAL2TEX and png9mon

vidor96pirates
I'll take Vidor by 10. No one has mentioned how good Vidor's defense is. SETX Football Lover
Bulldogpower
If RJ doesn’t play all of Vidor will know it. I’ll never forget my senior year at Nederland Kirby Bellow had gotten injured and he was a great QB, he was one of the best we had had up to that point,he was questionable to play and he sat out vs Vidor, Jeff Matthews called his starting QB then (Nick D) screaming how happy he was that Bellow wasn’t starting. I thought it sad and funny at the same time (another thought for another time) so if RJ is out for whatever reason they will be on cloud nine. But you can beat that rivalry and I you think that game doesn’t mean more to the players your kidding yourself.

Back in my time, I think it meant a lot, but in todays world, I think its almost like a SuperBowl to Nederland. And it shows on the field. The luster has really left the rivalry. Kids are now friends, years ago it wasn't like that. I will give Nederland credit, I never though in my lifetime the series would become close, and with the way BF approaches it, I can see Nederland taking the overall series lead if he sticks around for a good time. However, its a cool rivalry. Brings a big crowd, and puts both teams on the map some years. What RB said is true, we are so used to losing to Nederland now, that the sting is actually not as bad. And our goals are usually a little higher than just that win. I know in my time. 93.. We had a big hatred for TJ. Nederland was a easy win back then. My how times have changed, I can see Barrow going a few more years before we get a win. As a coach at PNG, when you are 2-7 against your so called biggest rival and OK with it, well that just tells you how the times are nowadays. I found it funny in the DCF interview that BF was asked what was his biggest win since he had been at PNG, he paused.. I said to myself, gotta be the Bum Phillips Bowl. He said Texas City last year. His words, not mine. But then again when your 2-7, you better act like you don't care!!!! Nederland and Vidor remind me a lot of the old PNG, play hard nosed defense, give 110%, and light you up. Lol. Yeah but if PNG wins they rush the field. (Just like Ned does). I’m not buying “we’re used to losing stuff”. It might not be the biggest win in a season it does matter and sometimes determines who wins district and gets a better path in the playoffs. Also, we had friends and relatives in both towns (I was there in 91-92) that made it sweeter when one side won.
Bigdog
Also, you can play it off as much as you want, but I get on the PNG site too and I see the hand wringing and whining when y’all lose.

Seeing as the last 20 years Ned has been in the playoffs more than PNG , do you really think that’s Ned’s super bowl? Ned has the same objective as every other team, state. The only time png has been relevant in my life was when my brothers Jeremiah Rose and Roschon Johnson played ball. Dude, the entire point of the post was to go at a png fan who said beating ned was the only thing to worry about regardless of the seasonn outcome. Some fans actually feel like that. Thats no bueno. Both schools should have higher ambitions. I thought that was obvious. Apparently it wasnt my bad. Im sorry i talked about your rivalry game. Seems like i hurt some feelings. Need a hug? He’s not even the best player to come through at PNG at his own position. He’s good but probably number 3 at QB. So stay in your lane and be humble. chorizo
Opinions are like buttholes, everbody has one,so with that being said,i honestly don't remember the Bergeron days but Long I followed that team.My opinion Shug is better all around MVP type guy,Long had a team around him,Shug has pretty much done it alone.Without Long they still could of won, maybe not get to state but win.Without Shug the last 3 years PNG prob doesn't have a winning season, again just an opinion from an old TJ guy.I say Shug is the best ever at PNG at that position!!!!again just my opinion so please nobody bite my head off!!Im just a Shug fan, great player, great young man!!Just like my son said last year in interview after Ned/PNG game Roshcon is the best player he has ever played against!! ps...shug in purple I don't like, shug in burnt orange,i cant wait lol
