So the video shown above is not the CL team that just beat PAM yesterday?

C’mon AAW.  Not sure if you’re trolling here but you’re at the front of the pack with the “scrimmages are not games” argument.   And I agree with you in that sentiment.  They’re good for seeing what certain players can do, but not the best indicator for what would happen in a regular season game.

Good indicator was when Silsbee got beaten by a Westbury Christian team in fall ball, which was a game some of the Tigers BADLY wanted to win.  They didn’t. But I still would have bet on Silsbee to win against the same team had they played during the season.

Why does silsbee think it’s a slight when people think someone might give them a game?  They are the best team in 4A.  You don’t have to better than Duke.

Clearly Ozen had an advantage in the fall ball coaching department ;)

Only if you were my assistant.....Thanks but I could never be a high school coach, they don’t get paid enough to put up with the foolishness from community ,school board, kids ,parents or fellow teachers haahahahaha.....

Any consolation that year Ozen beat  that same Westbury team  by 37 @ the super 16 and st.thomas by 23 meant absolutely nothing lol.

I do love these early matchups though.  Take Silsbee (everybody’s favorite topic) vs South Garland.  I can’t wait to see it and hope Silsbee takes it to them.  But the tigers should go in with a nothing to lose, give them our best punch to the mouth attitude.  If SG runs them out of the gym, no one will be surprised (outside of Hardin County).  But if Silsbee can even play with them toe to toe, some folks will be sitting up pretty straight in their chairs.

Fall ball means absolutely nothing when the coaches aren’t coaching. I’ll give you an example the year CL went 43-1 en route to winning state their last loss before the in season loss came to Ozen in the back to school battle at Yates . I coached that game we were up 25 on them ,I put the the bench in and they went 7-11 to cut it to 4, cue starters going back in lollll... Both Silsbee and CL won state that year getting revenge in a fall ball the following year means nothing imo especially when it’s not the same CL team.

Although i know what you mean and agree that a result here means very little or nothing in regular season,  i do believe you need to reword your statement.  If fall ball means “absolutely  nothing”, then why would these high school coaches even bother entering their teams.  I think it gives them some goid insight into where there players are individualy as well as how they handle situations as a team.  I for one know Concordia is a team that can give us a game,  but i also saw in that fall game how we can do things to give them trouble.

I agree.  I would have liked to have seen the Tigers get to play them during the season.  Would have been a great way to get experience for what they may see down the road.   Concordia is like a better, more talented version of an Argyle.

I am not taking it as a slight. By what I was told about the "fall ball" game was that you pretty much saw what Concordia has and will have. I was just saying Silsbee (a little short handed) handled them fairly well. I believe they would do that in a "real" game.

I think fall ball games are not comparable to scrimmages, but that's just me. Just like I don't think summer ball is the end all, be all.

And, I will ask the question again. Is that the same CL team? I am being serious since some have indicated it isn't.

South Garland is out of Silsbee's league.

And I will most definitely start talking up Orangefield basketball from here on out.

Of course coaches use this to see how their players match up against other teams. But honestly the coaches aren’t coaching so the  lineups, players all change when the coaches get involved. What you in fall ball doesn’t necessarily translate over to the regular season “most” times.

I was referring to myself as well.   I start as many conversations about the Tigers as anyone.   I have greatly enjoyed watching them over the past several years and have especially enjoyed watching the journey of these seniors.

When I said everyone, I was definitely including myself.  In fact, I could probably find a recent thread where I was chastised for starting a conversation about silsbee within it.  It was my bad.   The more I think about it, I may be as guilty of this as any poster on this site not named Badsanta or Kountzer.   They’re worse about it than me :D

I didn’t see the fall ball game but from those that did that were there yesterday, I think it’s basically the same group.  Which would make sense because I don’t think Concordia has many (certainly not as many as Silsbee) football players.  I know Hellums little brother plays but he’s a freshman and not sure if he’s going to be on the varsity basketball team or not.

The Tigers had 4 startes and one top reserve for this game and a couple players that i am not quite sure where they will fit within the program this year.  We were also missing around 7 players which include a probable starter and some key reserves as well.  There are a player or two there that werent varsity players last year buti feel will be this year and i may be missing one or two.

Silsbee was missing Martin a starter and reserves Sells, White, and maybe 2 others. Silsbee will go about 8 deep this year. I could see Sells, White, and Harmon off the bench.

Were missing Sells, White, Cartwright, Martin, Jatorian(played in next fall games i saw).  Also possible varsity players Taylor and Turk.  I also feel there may be one or two that i am missing here not sure but i feel like there is someone that was mentioned earlier this year that i am  not recalling off the top of my head.

#23 Will get playing time and will be a big factor I" believe. He got the height and got the speed and can get up... And he will slap the ball to the stands lol

Who will step up to replace Barnes?  He was a big factor last year.

Of course he was a big factor.  One exception though was the state finals,  he did not have much impact as he was riddled by foul trouble.  You cant replace his speed,  but otherwise i think it will be more of a team effort picking up the slack.

    • I have no issue with that however…. Rick Perry, although seemingly not really popular even with Republicans, was almost impossible to beat. The Texas conservatives just needed that tough, real conservative with an already popular voting base. Someone that has been elected to both Texas state office and federal office.  Boom! In 2010 in steps Kay Bailey Hutchison, a popular sitting US Senator and former Texas Treasurer. So she has been elected, statewide in both a state political position and nationally as a senator. A Rasmussen poll in 2009 showed Hutchison with a 40% to 38% lead over Perry. She had high profile endorsements as did Perry. Hutchison was endorsed by the likes of G H W Bush, Nolan Ryan, Roger Staubach, etc. If people are actually going to listen to endorsements, those are some fairly well thought of people in Texas. Primary day was between Perry, Hutchison and Debra Medina. Hutchison was beaten by Perry 51% to 30% and he got enough votes to avoid a runoff. Obviously, that has no bearing on today. It does show that just because a person is very popular and already elected to national office from Texas such as Kay Bailey Hutchison, it does not ensure a good showing in the polls against an incumbent. It will be interesting for sure.
    • WOW what a game. just got home, I'm gonna sleep with a big smile all night. PNG QB passes were spot on tonight, lil #17 freshman receiver had huge catches at critical times in the game. # 44 had a couple of huge catches including the 'jump pass' on 4th down for a touchdown.  #4 made big plays at key times on both sides of the ball, he is a beast. #11 played his usual consistent game with big time catches and a couple of good punts and a good job of just falling on a bobbled kick reception. #27 probably had 125 yards or so rushing. The defensive backs did a good job, bending but not breaking including the interception in the end zone. I thought the TH coaches messed up not trying to score with the high power players they have when they got the fumble right before half with 45 seconds or so on the clock and 3 TO left, if they would have scored then it would have broke our backs. I know it was 90 yards to go but they could cover the field in 3 or 4 plays. This is one of the most exciting wins in PNG's long history of exciting wins. Oh yeah kudos to the fans for getting in to the game at key times and in my Opinion making a big difference. 😂
    • To the 41 individuals that picked TH…..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Round 4 here we come!
