Should Temple try to lose?

Before you say "of course not!", this is their situation, as I understand it. Temple was upset last week by Waco Midway. If Temple wins this week, they have to travel almost 4 hours to face the #6 ranked Longview Lobos in Longview.  If Temple does lose, they get to HOST a game against a team with a losing record, because of the small-large thing. .

** This is what I am reading, so it Is UNCONFIRMED **.Please correct if necessary.

Regardless, I am curious to know what people think. I totally support and understand the "play as hard as you can every time" ethic, but personally I see the strategy aspect for Temple clearly. Teams do punt right? Thats a surrender of sorts, to gain something ahead. Also, some NFL teams have let opponents score to get the ball back in the final minute of a game. Just sayin'.

I bet Temple plays all their starters as a high school football coach you cannot be afraid of playing anyone what kind of attitude do you think that shows to the players and as a player how would you feel if your coach was scared to play another team just to have an easier first round game?

I understand your thoughts, but I would not think Temple would be actually afraid to play. I think the players and fans would totally understand the predicament, and understand the strategy. Its not just about having an easier opponent, but avoiding a 4 hour drive to top ranked opponents house, vs. playing at home.

Thanks for your input, NHS.

I would think that it would be difficult to go into a week of practice/preparation and then after kickoff NOT try to win.  I understand that it may be a better option in the playoffs but I'm sure it doesn't sit well with anyone to not give it their all to win.  Don't know.  I think this might be a situation where "if we happen to lose, it's not the end of the world" but I think business as usual is what should happen.

I mentioned a similar scenario to a West Brook fan last week.  As it sits right now, if United beats Deer Park, West Brook will go D1 and have to travel to Humble Atascocita for their 1st round playoff game.  If Deer Park beats United, then Channelview will go D1 and West Brook would get to host a D2 playoff game against Humble Kingwood.  If the Bruins would have lost or laid down to Deer Park last week, that would have increased the West Brooks odds of getting that 1st round home game and being D2. West Brook won 56-46 over the Deer...

I would want to get to rounds 2, 3, 4, etc., first. It may not happen if you go through the 1st round at Longviews house, but it is very likely to happen at home vs. a weaker opponent.

The last time I checked, the goal was to win a State Championship. The Coaches job is to put kids in position for long term success and noT be short sighted. You don't show your whole offense in Non-District for a reason. You don't show all of your Blitz packages early in the year for a reason. You don't run trick plays to win games during the preseason. Losing a game that better prepares you for success in the playoffs is a NO BRAINIER.

Yes, losing is the thing to do. You should always play to lose. It makes your opponent feel good. A team that is scared to play another team is not going very far in the playoffs anyhow.

lol Temple has been one of the best teams in the state of Texas for a few years now. If they lose I doubt that's going to keep them from going far in the playoffs. Actually the situation may make them advance even farther.

It's not like they played the starters the entire game and they sandbagged it. They put the backups in and backups did what backups do against another team's starters
