This is why holding the Senate was so important.

Absolutely.

Trump will nominate a woman to replace her and the Dems will have to find a man that will claim that he was drinking in a bar 25 years ago and she tried to grope him while he was vulnerable after two beers. He has been suffering from PTSD ever since and.......

I'll volunteer if I can get the same deal as Ford. How much money did she end up making (that we know of)?

That would be big time.

It may be literally impossible to choose a justice worse for the left than Clarence Thomas.  But he’s so bad, it really would be big time for everyone, mainly the court.  He’s the Kwame Brown/Ryan Leaf of the judiciary.  But you never know with Trump.  Is Kavanaugh’s buddy Tobin available?

He getting tired of oral arguments interrupting his naps?  I’m surprised he’s not wearing a CPAP machine in the courtroom yet.

He’s said many times he wouldn’t die on the bench and wanted to enjoy retirement.  I would look for him to retire early next year.  The Senate may never get any better than what he will have.

You speak of Kavanaugh like he was not a good choice, which is sad.

In all seriousness, what happened to Kavanaugh was a shame. They ruined that man's life, regardless if it worked or not. Anybody who had a part in that, should get 10 years in prison.

That was a setup from the word go.  Trump should go after every one of those sorry Dims that pushed that.  Like I said before, never was a Lindsey Graham fan, but after his tirade directed at the Dims, I look at him a little differently.  All Republicans are going to have to show a little fire in our guts to stop these idiots and the spread of their socialist/ communist agendas.

I was speaking of Thomas.  We have no idea how good or bad Kavanaugh will be.  He was interesting choice regardless.

He will get $250k per year (with annual raises) for the rest of his life from a job he can basically not be fired.  In fact, he can be quite horrible at his job and still be paid the same regardless.  I’m sure there are a lot of folks in this country who would like their lives similarly ruined.

The next news story has replacedhim and he will be an afterthought to most.  I’m still not sure what happened that night and neither is anyone else that wasn’t involved.  I disliked the way it was handled and still think going back to high school is ridiculous.  His performance before the committee was a much bigger cause for alarm; he was less than impressive as a jurist.  But then again, I’ve never been on national television accused of such things so it’s tough to imagine how you would “perform” under similar circumstances.

Put another way, Kavanaugh will end up being judged by how well he does his job.  Clarence Thomas has not become a joke among his colleagues not because of Anita Hill, but because he’s been a lousy justice.  That is not just my opinion; that’s also an opinion shared among some conservative icons who have served with distinction on the court.  And I don’t speak from supposition.  One of my law school classmates who was in my section (and a pretty good friend as far as law school classmates go) clerked for Thomas.  And lest you think she was a liberal with an axe to grind, she has gone on to serve with distinction and in pretty high level positions within the GOP in Washington.

By most accounts, including hers, Thomas is a nice enough fellow.  He just happens to suck at his job and has been paid handsomely for such suckiness.

I'm highly certain that Clarence Thomas being a joke and a horrible or lousy justice is not a universally shared or accepted notion. Many, many, many people, including me, think he is a good justice. He is a constitutionalist or originalist, and favors states rights over an strong central government. This upsets many of the Left (and even those that are slightly Left-leaning). It's been a long time since I've read his bio or any of his decisions, but I was under the impression then that he was a good justice, and I don't have any reason to change that opinion now.

That sounds great and all, but I am thinking he was doing pretty well for himself financially before this. Being called a racist by half of the American population, probably for as long as he serves, is something that money doesn't solve. Again, I am sure money isn't a problem before this started.

You and the late, great Antonin Scalia would disagree with this assessment.  But I’m sure yours is probably more learned ;)

But I don’t disagree he has had some well-written and well-reasoned opinions attributed to him.   As stated, I know one person well who wrote several of those opinions and I wouldn’t expect anything less of her.

It’s about a 36% raise in salary from what he was making with a lot more financial benefits obviously.   Not saying money was a problem but I think stating they “ruined this man’s life” is a bit of an overstatement.

His life isn't ruined because the Dems picked the wrong guy to run through their grinder.  If he would have said to heck with this and dropped out, his career would have been ruined because he would have been perceived as guilty.

His life wasn't ruined because of his character and follow through, not that the pathetic Dems on the approval committee didn't give it their best shot.

You might be spot on there.

    • I too, wish #15 was healthy and playing.  And also another RB (can't recall the #), who went down in the first game of the season. But, some others have stepped up and are hard runners.  I'm really looking forward to watching this game.
    • Still, from what little I saw, it should have been a much closer game.  WOS was missing some fundamentals on defense, and a lack of imaginative play calling on offense.  Just my opinion as an objective observer on Texan Live, which was horrible btw, but that's another story.
    • Either way,one game lead in the series. I rely to much on word of mouth
    • West Orange Stark has been a powerhouse since I csn remember. At some point, your bound to fall off to some degree. Alabama has 3 or 4 loses this season. Who would have thought? Has Orange lost kids to LCM or even Orangefield?
    • Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716).  The Tiger defense is solid and very quick.    Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.
