KFDM COOP Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Lamar State Seahawks home for weekend conference gamesThe Lamar State College-Port Arthur softball team will be home this weekend for conference doubleheaders with Paris Junior College on Saturday and Northeast Texas Community College on Sunday.Lamar State (2-24 overall, 1-17 in Region XIV) is looking to break a 16-game losing streak that started March 18 at Navarro College in Corsicana. The Seahawks lost twice Wednesday at Alvin Community College, 10-2 and 9-1.Lamar State head coach Vance Edwards said his team was just a couple of hits away from winning both of those games.“We’re just not getting timely hits,†he said. “We had the bases loaded twice in the first game. The first time, Ashley Lapeyrolerie hit a line drive that the second baseman just managed to snag. The second time, their third baseman corralled a hard grounder to stop us.â€Lamar State pitcher/outfielder Brooke Teal had two hits and a run in three times at bat in the first game.Freshman catcher/3rd baseman Shauna Sicotte drove in two runs with a double in the second game.Errors also contributed to the Lady Dophins staying alive in some innings that should have ended earlier, Edwards said.Teal (.283), Lapeyrolerie (.281) and sophomore outfielder Stephanie Sanford (.273) currently lead the Seahawks’ offense. Paris (31-15, 11-7), currently second in the Region XIV East Zone, and Northeast Texas (12-21, 5-13) played Wednesday in Paris, with the home team wining both games, 7-3.This weekend’s games begin at 1 p.m. on Martin Field, 1000 Lakeshore Drive on the Lamar State campus. Admission is free.
