Thats exactly how the UIL manipulates things. Remember when 'ONLY" one more team would be added to the playoffs? Now it is four, for example. The saddest thing is the UIL incrementally takes control away from the local level and gives it to the administrative powers in Austin. The UIL will soon dictate what stadiums are "playoff approved" due to being "replay ready" with expensive cameras and such. They will tell you when and where to play, everytime. Local schools won't have any say in the matter.

More teams equals more games which I’m all for. And i know it waters things down a bit, but honestly at the end of the day the teams who are the best are usually gonna make it all the way anyway.

There are several ways to look at it:

1. As far as the getting embarrassed part... Does that mean that Livingston shouldn’t have been allowed to play at all? Of course not

2. Ask any of the kids from any 3rd or 4th seed team if they are willing to chance getting blown out by an opponent for the opportunity at a playoff game. I’m willing to bet they would want to make the playoffs.

3. Think of the upset possibilities. They can and will happen. That’s exciting to me!

4. It does take away some if the shininess of making the playoffs when you have, say, 4 of the 6 teams making it.

Its all how you look at it, I guess.

You are DEAD wrong. UIL is the best governing body in any State for athletics. The UIL does more for high school athletics in the state of Texas than any group in any other state. It is the best run organization of its kind. Yes, they generate money, but that money goes to pay the salaries of the GREAT people they have running that organization and to support all of the other (non-revenue generating) Extracurricular Events, like Band Competitions, One-Act-Play and many, many other Academic Competitions.  If you think the UIL is in this to make money you are an idiot. They use football and basketball to fund the organization so they can put on Top Notch Events for all High School kids,

Yep, and it actually produces a legitimate Champion.

Sunnyvale won their District Championship, they play Gilmer (4th place) in the first round.

We will see, but may the best TEAM win.

Tell us how you really feel.

I know your OPINION, may not agree with others, but no need for lashing out and calling another member an idiot.

Didn't call anyone an idiot. I said, "IF you think this way then....."

The UIL is not in the money making business. They use revenue generated by certain SPORTS to run all the other events that they host on a yearly basis.

I just can't stand when people get on a message board and call out the UIL. They do more for ALL extracurricular activities in Texas than any organization of their kind.

I used to be one of those guys who thought expanding the playoffs to 3-4 teams over just 2 teams was a bad idea. Watering it down. But I have moved on.

What I do not care for is having 4 teams qualify for playoffs out of 4-6 team districts. A team should never have a losing district record and qualify for playoffs. I mean we just had a team recently make playoffs with an 0-10 record (Houston Scarborough). 0-10!!!!!

I praise the UIL in all their efforts but one thing I would like for them to do. If they want 4 teams to qualify, make it mandatory for all districts to have a minimum of 7-8 teams, in all sports.

If they are worried about travel expenses for schools which keeps them from making the districts bigger, then allow districts with 8 or more teams have 5 qualifying teams and districts with 6 or fewer teams only have 3.

Let the champion of each division play each other to make one true champion that's basically  all what I want. Football is the only one that has division 1 and 2  all the other sports has one true state champion. As far as the uil I have had my share of run ins with them so u can call me whatever u like doesn't bother me.

Basically, in Football only, the UIL has created a 12 Classification system. If you look at the Alignment that way, then it makes a lot more sense.

Would you feel more comfortable with Allen being the 12A State Champion, rather than the 6A-Div1 Champion?

Or would you rather Carthage be the 8A Champion and Pleasant Grove be the 7A Champion?

This is really what we have in Texas in Football.

In all the other sports there are only 6 classifications.

The UIL's micromanagement and taking away control at the local level is what bothers me so much. Its full blown Big Government / Socialism for high school athletics now, which (who would have guessed?) equates to big $$$ for the UIL.

Play-offs are too watered down now.  I like it better back when only 2 teams made playoffs.  Playoffs are supposed to reward teams.  An accomplishment of having a good season. Now teams with losing records are getting in the playoffs. So it's the " everybody gets a trophy" theory. Just looking at the final standings post.  There are 4 local teams with losing records that made playoffs. So your telling those kids that's 3-4 or 2-3 record in district is good enough.  Life lesson: Just because you tried your best....doesn't entitle you to anything..

My 2 cents on an easy fix: Districts with less than 8 teams, 1st and 2nd makes playoffs.  Districts with 8 or more teams, get 4 teams in.

I suggested the same a year or two ago. When 4 of 5 gets in its a joke.
