One thing is for sure - the Golden Triangle will have a representative at the 7-on-7 state tournament.

The Titans of Port Arthur Memorial emerged from Pool C, containing Manvel, Stafford and Pasadena Memorial. They will meet District 23-5A and local rival Beaumont West Brook in the semifinals after the Bruins cruised through its pool with Katy Taylor (already qualified), Klein Collins and Strake Jesuit.

Houston Chavez won Pool A over Baytown Lee (already qualified), Bellaire and Alamo Heights of suburban San Antonio. The Lobos will face Channelview, victors of Pool B comprising Cy-Creek, Friendswood and St. Pius.

Observations: Lee qualified at the Manvel SQT and did not participate in bracket play. The Lobos could be a sleeper in the 7-on-7 state tourney, and they are hoping for the first winning season in the school's 11-man football history this year.

Observations: Friendswood was not at full strength, as the team was without quarterback Jacob Karam, receiver Matt McLaren and other starters. This enabled the Falcons, former 23-4A opponents of the Mustangs, to fly over the competition.

Observations: The Titans' dominance was the only constant in this pool. Manvel, which begins varsity football in 2008, is getting tuned up to launch the new Mavericks program in northern Brazoria County.
