Guest Yard Bird
Power Clean. Don't over look the benefits of plyos and core work. Strength is essential, but explosion is deadly.

Zoneblock
Powerclean - squat - trackstraightleg deadlifts are good for speed not only does it lengthen the hamstring it also makes it stronger.
bevo
All depends on your position. But striaght leg-dead lift is very underratted. Very few people really do it and it is one of the best for your legs and speed.
stang4life
Straight-leg deadlift (if not done properly) can cause the hamstring to snap the ischium (butt bone that we sit on) if you're not careful. The fracture mimics a hamstring injury and usually is misdiagnosed as such delaying healing. Just FYI for those athletes who do them.
PURPLE 4EVER
Although not in the prime of my youth, the most strenous yet best exercise I have done is hopping up hills or stands on one foot. Nothing increases your heart rate like this and it is excellent way to increase your speed. If your knees start hurting lay off of this.

BigPurpleMan32
anyone who has ever played knows HIPS ARE ESSENTIAL. They are where all explosion comes from, and they help you stay low and gain all kinds of leverage.we always did hurdle work, powerclean, snatch, and lows box squats for our hips...and i think the strength i gained from these exercises made all the difference
