Most important workout for football.

Thats not really a question that can be answered generally...

It depends on the position of the player...

For skill players (WR, RB, DB's, etc.) the focus is on Agility, Calisthenics, Quickness, and Hands...

For Lineman its squats, power clean, leg lifts, and lots and lots of Ice Cream....

For positions like linebacker, its a combination of both.. you want the strength and power of a lineman, but accompanied with the agility and quickness of a DB....

Just my insight...

Power clean is all about form when you clean the bar you legs have to be shoulder width apart..alot of people have there legs spread way out you will not get the explosiveness if you do that...same thing with the Squat you will not get much results on the field if you workout with your legs spread way out they have to be shoulder width apart to target your hamstrings more.

Power moves like power cleans are going to help explosion and that is most important in football.  The one weakness I see with a lot of kids, training on their own in the summer, is speed development.  The ONLY way you get fast is to train fast.  Strength is good, POWER is better.  You have to include sprint and agility work in the summer preparation time.  You can't get faster just doing bench and squats and playing basketball.  Got to do some sprints, plyos, and agility.
