Cat22
I agree, Central will be tough. Lumberton will be good, but lost some great players to graduation. Dayton and Ozen will be good also. My sleeper in this district next year is LCM. They may not make the playoffs, but they will be in the hunt.
ladybronco
Though I am biased on this poll, I will still choose dayton. The girls may not have much height, but they are in great shape and have improved even since the end of season. I know those girls will do great next year. Also, how does Lumberton look without Wilson and Pickering? I know they were the high scorers and high stats for pretty much everything else. Guest bleed orange
I would have to say Central also. They have quite a few returing players. After that it is a toss up.
Slam14
I think the district as a whole is getting much better, but IMO it will be Central and Ozen fighting for the top spot and a gang fight for 3rd. Central is very quick and continues to be physical and strong inside. Going into the season they would have to be the front runner for the district crown.Ozen was probably the most athletic girls squad in the district last year and will have the majority of those ladies back again this year. It's too early to tell in June...but the 3rd place team may just be determined by who works the hardest this summer, and who plays with the most heart when the season starts. CindyNTX
I think Central has a shot. I think it's going to be about 3 years before Lumberton goes to state again. When this group of incoming 8th graders gets to be Juniors, then we will have another strong team. They are the undefeated District Champs for 7th grade basketball this past 06-07 year. And the closest game was in the Central (Nederland) Tourny where they won by only 9 points. All other games were won by 20 or more. The last game they played Vidor and won 52-8. The last game they played Vidor and won 52-8.The Lumberton girls that will be Juniors this year also had undefeated 7th and 8th grade seasons. They also won the JV District as Freshman. So, they are a solid bunch, also. No doubt Central is the team to beat this year, but the Lady Raiders will compete for the top 3 spots. In Summer League and AAU play I have seen some players really step up their game. They should be solid at the post with Katie Green and Hayley Miller. Nicole Kemp can play inside or on the wing. Guards Alyssa Valastro, Stacey Ayers, Mykal Romano, Kellie Schreck, and Janie Long(if she plays) will make a much more balanced team. Instead of two players scoring 25 points a game, you will have 4 or 5 girls scoring 10-13, etc.Coach Charlie Wilson will have chance to earn his 4th Coach of the Year award. This just represents my two cents as a players' Dad, and as someone who has coached all of these players at some time or another. (i.e. Little Dribblers, AAU, Summer League)It will be fun, however it plays out!
CindyNTX
I've seen almost all of those girls play starting in Little Dribblers. I have seen them all play in middle and high school. They are good. And I can't wait to see Katie this year. I missed watching her last year. I just don't see Lumberton being as strong as they have been over the last two years or so. I also don't feel that the current coach will be as effective as he has been in the past. Just my two cents as a mom, and coach. Hopefully, I am wrong... ;D
