MIF04 Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 Here is a brief preview of this week’s playoff series:BEAUMONT WEST BROOK VS. PASADENA MEMORIAL21-5A champion West Brook Bruins play a 3 game series against 22-5A 4th place finisher, Pasadena Memorial. The teams met once earlier in the Houston Christian Tournament with the Bruins winning 13-6. Don’t put too much stock in this early season game, though, and remember that Memorial led this game going into the 4th. The Bruins’ offense has been relentless. That shouldn’t change here. FAVORITE: West Brook PREDICTION: West Brook in 2.PORT NECHES-GROVES VS. HUFFMANA great match up pitting 22-4A runner-up PNG against 21-4A third place finisher Huffman. The Eagles are very tough with Michael Listi on the mound (i.e., 1-0 win over Barbers Hill) but will definitely miss their #2 starter, Heath Arnold (lost for the remainder of the season). The Indians' duo of Harrington and Flores are every bit as dominant (i.e., Harrington’s 1-0 win over the same Barbers Hill squad). This should be a very competitive series.FAVORITE: Port Neches Groves PREDICTION: Port Neches Groves in 3.VIDOR VS. BARBERS HILLVidor comes into this 3 game series, running on fumes after an exhausting 4 game week including the Saturday playoff win vs. Nederland. If Taylor Robiceaux can muster another mound masterpiece then Vidor will be tough; otherwise, the Eagles pitching of Hales and Thamm (for starters) is as good a rotation as any 4A school in the Region…provided they can get their offense back on track.FAVORITE: Barbers Hill PREDICTION: Barbers Hill in 2.BRIDGE CITY VS. SPLENDORAAfter finishing 2nd in 21-3A, the Cardinals lose the coin flip and get a 1 game series with Splendora. While this magnifies the pressure, BC has played nothing but pressure games the past few weeks. This should bode well for them here. FAVORITE: Bridge City PREDICTION: Bridge City.HARDIN-JEFFERSON VS. LIBERTYThe Hawks are 21-3A’s 3rd place team but ride into the playoffs on a crest of momentum, fueled by their 1-0 nail biter over Silsbee in the district playoff game. The Panthers of Liberty won the coin flip and elected to play Hardin-Jefferson. We think that was a bad call. FAVORITE: Liberty PREDICTION: Hardin-Jefferson in 2.SMALL SCHOOL:Nacagdoches Central Heights is the favorite over Anahuac and look for them to win this series in 2.Kountze may be the 2nd place finisher but Hemphill is battle-tested. Hemphill wins in 3.Colmesneil gets the playoffs underway with Groveton. Colmesneil in 2 games.Evadale looks to bounce back from their disappointing 2nd place finish and, behind Landis and Drake, will close out Normangee in 2 games.Sabine Pass draws the defending 1A state champion, Anderson-Shiro. Anderson-Shiro in 3.
espn2 Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Should be an exciting weekend. I for one can't wait.
Roll_Left15 Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 where is woodville in that lolW'ville has a bye....he didn't mention the teams with byes, because you don't know who they are playin' yet.
Foyce Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Taylor should be ready, but renenber Vidor is fairly deep in more than capable pitchers! I was also very impressed with Hester and Smith!
Brujins44 Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Vidor does have a solid staff, however Vidor will not only have to pitch well. They are going to need their explosive offense to show up as well. Vidor is more than capable of defeating Barbers Hill in this series. I hope they want to win as much as I want them to
midcountymadness Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 i think bh is too strong for most teams over here
Critter Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 i think bh is too strong for most teams over hereWhere does your info come from ??? ???
MIF04 Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 BH is a very good team; however, 1 of their losses is to a 22-4A team (PNG, 1-0). Harrington pitched a gem. BH's pitching has been stellar all season long. Their offense has been, of late, a little shaky.
