Employees whose jobs are riffed were not layed off, but in fact afforded jobs in other departments. The pay may or may not be equal but they were not layed off. The employee receives their pay at the current level for two years and then the pay grade drops down to the grade level of the new position. The new position may require relocation. The downside is that the relocation may not be a paid move. The salary may be less or more depending on the GL.
