Like when Ltown held Bridges of LCM down to 8 points when he was Avg about 28 a game. A good defender is worth his/her weight in gold. I think you all are missing what I'm really saying. My guess would be that PNG and BH both don't have D1 caliber players but yet they shut down a D1 prospect. All I'm saying is a D1 player doesn't let someone shut them down. No excuse for BH or PNG to hold Hefner under double digits in scoring. So what you are saying is that a kid in high school can’t have a phenomenal defensive night against a great B-ball player especially if they are from PNG or BH. Also, you are saying that Hefner is not a D1 player. Well if you have ever watched him play he is legit. His supporting cast had a bad night tonight and couldn’t take up the slake. Nederland is young and are just learning how to play when another team takes away their star player. But still give a kid praise when they deserve it. They did a great job defending Hefner. If you remove Hefner on this team and replace him with Weisbrod or J'covon Brown do they lose? Do they score less than 9 pts? If Hefner gets the praise when they win, then he should take the heat when they lose. IMO... there is no reason a D1 player still doesn't do his thing vs anyone, not just PNG and BH defenders. I have watched him play several times and he needs to be more consistent. He has a ton of upside but he needs to show up every night. The better the team, the better the star. I know a local team, much like Ned, but supporting cast even worse, that has a really good player. Hands down best on the court in a recent game, but again, not much help. The other team doubled on him and won the game. Further proof? LeBron James at Cleveland. Until the Cavs got him a supporting cast, he wasn’t that impressive. You can be the best in the world, but if you don’t have 4 decent players behind you, you won’t win that many games. Take Silsbee for instance. You double one of their players & watch the other 4 steamroll you.

Can you not accept the fact that Nail had a great defensive night against a great BBall player? I’m not degrading Hefner. Nail probably just played the defensive game of his life. And no , Nail is not my son. But I will give praise to a kid who deserves it. How is my comment directed at you dude???? Was implying that BH defended him well also.... geezzzz!!!!! Mamba
It’s easier to game plan against one then it is against 5. If this was a playoff game I’d have a problem but its a district game against a well coached PNG team whose coach is no nonsense. Hefner doesn’t have a great supporting cast like JB or Colton did but he does a good job of getting them involved so when you cut the head off the body will follow. That kid is unselfish and I’m sure if he were to force up 25 shots a game ppl would be screaming he’s a ball hog . Now as far D1 that’s a no brainer he will move on to next level not sure about the other kids but they’ll probably be intramural players so there is no comparison there. It’s just a game ppl let the kids play and everyone relax #peace

He is getting recruited by D1 schools due to the fundamentals skills, his potential, his grades and whatever else college recruiters see in him. Not every D1 recruit is a dominate player in HS. Just like every NBA player is not a dominate college player. Hefner still has things he needs to work on, just like every other player, but college coaches can see his potential. You need to make sure you contact all those D-1 coaches that are offering him full rides. It seems they are wasting their time and school money. Question, did you think Jace Miguez was a D-1 player? One game playoff for seeding or coin flip. Or if one school wants to play for it and the other doesn’t, sometimes a concession. Not saying he doesn't have D1 potential. He has things you can't teach. Height, High IQ, good skill set and great jumping ability but there are also other parts of his game that needs work. Like more consistent shooting from 3 and mid range. I'm sure most of the schools that want him, feel they can get him to his full potential, which is what a lot of scouts look for. Also playing for a high profile AAU team helps. And No, I did not think Miguez was a D1 player. He was a great offensive player. However, I do feel he wouldn't of had 9pts vs PNG. In games where Hefner either didnt play (College Park) or was defended well the supporting cast was non existent.
KF89
#23 Jackson Simmons for PNG was the main defender that held Ned D1 player #2 in check for most of the game with good help defense from his team mates. Nail did a good job also when he subbed in to give Simmons a rest.
