Critter
VINCENT-BECK STADIUMThe home of Lamar University since 1969, Vincent-Beck Stadium has become a true showpiece among college baseball facilities in the Southwest. Originally named Cardinal Field, the facility was renamed in 1981 to honor Al Vincent and Bryan Beck. Seating capacity is 3,500. Vincent was a former professional player and manager in the Texas League. He served 16 years as a special assistant coach at Lamar, ending his tenure in 1989. He was inducted into the Cardinal Hall of Honor in 1980. Beck is a former member of the Lamar University System Board of Regents. During his tenure (1969-80), he served on the athletic committee and was an instrumental force in several construction projects on Lamar's athletic facilities. Among those projects were construction of Ty Terrell Track and the modern tennis complex. Also, expansion of McDonald Gym, as well as the first refurbishing of the baseball field, were Beck's major contributions while serving on the committee. Most recently, the construction of all-weather batting cages and a new bullpen area were completed in December of 1995. In 1997, an indoor facility was constructed that includes batting cages and pitching mounds. The infield was resurfaced in the fall of 1998 and the astro turf down the first and third baselines and around home plate was replaced prior to the start of the 1999 season. New for the 2000 season was a 3-foot high brick wall that extends from dugout to dugout behind home plate. The Cardinals have completed a 20-foot tall "batters eye" in centerfield for the 2001 season and new foul poles were installed down both the right and left field lines prior to the 2003 season. Prior to hosting the 1993 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, the stadium received upgrades and improvements in various areas. The air-conditioned press box, which features two radio broadcast booths and additional space for other working media, was modernized, receiving a brand new coat of red paint. Chairback seats were installed prior to the 1990 season, adding a Cardinal red to the reserved section. Concession stands and restroom facilities are located beneath the bleachers, and a paved parking lot flanks the stadium down the third base line. The park is symmetrical with the distances to the outfield fence being 325 feet to the corners, 380 feet to centerfield, and 370 in the power alleys. Over the past several years, Vincent-Beck has played host to the Beaumont Golden Gators and Bullfrogs (professional baseball) and the Junior Olympic Baseball Super Series for 1992 and 1993. Vincent-Beck Stadium played host to the 2001 and 2002 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament. The Cardinals used the home field advantage in 2002 by winning the tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Regional in Austin

Gabe
Remember PNG vs. LCM in 2004 at LU? That place had people everywhere. Lets hope this series comes close to those crowds. That atmosphere was amazing. If nothing else, show up to watch some darn good baseball and cheer for both sides. This is some of the best baseball that will be played in the entire state all year. CardinalFan
It's actually off HWY 69 in Beaumont, closeby to Lamar. The easiest route is to exit HIGHLAND AVE off HWY 69, turn left onto Highland, go 5 streets up (Shold be E. Florida) take a RIGHT onto Florida, you'll see the field up the road about a mile to the right.Otherwise, go down HWY 69 and exit MLK Drive, turn left onto MLK, and turn left onto E. Florida, ballpark will be down the road on the left

This is some of the best baseball that will be played in the entire state all year. The PNG vs. LCM Regional Final in '04 had more than 2600 in paid attendance. But the largest crowd I have ever seen or heard of at a high school game was the 1997 Regional Final between Nederland and LCM which reportedly had near 6000 in attendance. The Beck was busting at the seams. Hundreds of people who could not get in were sitting in their cars listening to their radios. This series could bring a large crowd as well. The Nederland VS LCM Regional finals of 1997 was possibly the best high school baseball game I've ever seen.Great pitching and superb defense from both teams. Hale VS Sutherland I believe. Nederland wins 1-0 on a passed ball late in the game. The stands were packed, the baseline fences we 3 deep with people trying to see and a couple of hundred were turned away at the gate. I hope BC and Jasper get that type of atmosphere.
