Port Arthur Schools

I figured this would be something to talk about. Beaumont in late 80's went to two super high schools, only to go back to three high schools several years later.  Port Arthur combined all three of thier high schools into one large high school.  In my opinion, they would be better off to have two 4A schools than one 5A school.  Tell me your thoughts.  This isn't a joke and there is no punch line.

There's not one ISD in the state with a combined ADM of 2400 with more than 1 school.  I dare anyone to show me.  Plus with the new school being built, 2 major expansion projects @Motiva and Valero, there maybe some growth but not enough to open another school.  If the numbers get close to 3000 or so, then maybe opening up another school will be fine

I would agree. I think the fact that a new large high school is going to be built has pretty much ended the belief that there will be more than one high school for many years to come. If there was a reason for a surge in population then maybe but I don't see that in the near future. More like PA will lose population, not gain it.

When Byrne closed in '83 coupled with the big layoffs in '82 and '84 hurt PA's population tremendously.  Plus Rita hurt as well.  But on the flipside, 15000 skilled laborers are neeed for the 2 refineries plus 2 LNG plants in Sabine Pass/Johnson's Bayou.  Like I said, I see a upswing but not enough to open another high school.  Plus  I know of 4 elementary buildings now closed since '80 so it's not just at the high school level....

Look for Nederland and PNG's population to grow more than Port Arthurs after the refineries hire the new people...

I kind of doubt that there will be any large growth in the schools. Most of the workers will be construction workers. They will not be moving here permanently and they will probably leave their families whereever they are. Most will be living in temporary places such as apartments and hotels until the jobs are finshed. The surrounding cities might see an increase in population during construction but I doubt many of the schools will.
