WOSgrad Posted June 13, 2019 Report Share Posted June 13, 2019 This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up 2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS ORANGEFIELD BOBCATS 2018 Record: 5-5 Overall, 2-5 District 6th Place in District 12-3A-I Going into the district portion of the 2018 football season, the Orangefield Bobcats were 3-0 and the chances of success in their new district home, 12-3A-I, seemed quite bright. However, a spate of injuries in a rugged district proved to be too much for Josh Smalley's young Bobcats. However, optimism of a playoff season Coach Smalley will have more depth of both sides of the ball in the form of 7 starters on the offensive side of the ball and 8 on the defensive side to push the Bobcats into the playoff picture. Head Coach: Josh Smalley Assistant Coaches: John Davis (Defensive Coordinator), Chris Pachuca (Offensive Coordinator), Randy Brevell, Dennis Vansa, Todd Trawhon, Tim Erickson, Ryan Pickering, Joe Peevey, Lee Legate, Richard Drouillard, Jake McDonald Offense: Seven starters return to the Orangefield Slot T offense in 2019. Leading the offense will be junior quarterback Gunner Jones (2018 12-3A-I Co-Newcomer of the Year). He will be joined in the backfield by senior halfback Kadeon Evans and senior tailback Chase Broussard. Senior Heston Puckett and sophomore Hunter Ashworth will both see time at the fullback position with seniors Kaiden DuBose and Clayson Choate also seeing time in the Bobcat backfield. Senior guards Brady Bellow and Connor Tait, as well as junior tackle Mason Sampson, will lead an offensive line which will also include juniors Kyler Metts and Grant Metts, as well as sophomore Coby Coulter. Junior Logan Gipson will round out the line as well as figure in the Bobcat passing game. Defense: Eight starters return to the Orangefield 4-3 defense in 2019. Senior Colby Gonzales (1st team all-district) returns to lead an defensive line which will also feature senior defensive end Kayson Dubois and will include Ashworth, Sampson and Coulter. Outside linebackerPuckett (1st team all-district in 2018) will lead the linebacker group along with fellow seniors Evans and Kent Michael. Senior strong safety Brown (2nd team all-district) and senior cornerback Cade Brown (2nd team all-district) will lead a Bobcat secondary which will also feature senior free safety Choate and senior cornerback DuBose. Senior Cade Kile and junior Tyler Washington will also see time in the Bobcat secondary. Special Teams: Jones will handle both the place kicking and punting duties for Orangefield while Choate (1st team all-district special teams) will be the Bobcats' primary kick returner.
