WOSgrad Posted June 17, 2019 Report Posted June 17, 2019 This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up 2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS CHANNELVIEW FALCONS 2018 Record: 4-7 Overall, 3-4 District 4th Place in District 21-6A The 2018 Channelview Falcons were able to achieve what the 2017 team couldn't....make the playoffs. The goal for 2019 is to climb even higher in the 21-6A standings and build on last year's bi-district playoff appearance. Head Coach Averion Hurts expects to be young in some spots, but does bring back a good number of starters (6 starters on offense, 5 of defense) plus a number of players with a lot of experience to achieve that goal. Head Coach: Averion Hurts, Sr. Assistant Coaches: Patrick Robinson (Defensive Coordinator), Randall Tannert (Co-Offensive Coordinator), Byron Henderson (Co-Offensive Coordinator), Ephraim Patterson (Special Teams Coordinator), Darren McNorten (Wide Receivers), Terrance Job (Running backs), Tim Jones (Defensive Line), Steve Owens (Assistant-Offensive Line), DewShannon Holmes (Assistant-Defensive Line), Kareen Neal (Assistant-Defensive Backs), Averion Hurts, Jr. (Head Coach-Freshmen) Offense: 6 starters return to the Channelview 4 wide offense in 2019. Competing for the starting quarterback role will be seniors Brandan Cardenas and Mack Perry. Sophomore Demetrius Charles will also see time under center. Senior running back Alton Lott (2nd team all-district) will return to lead the Falcon running game with the help of sophomore back Dreak Thomas. Seniors Paula Vaipulu (1st team all-district), Abner Mancillas (2nd team all-district), and Jesus Perez will lead the Channelview offensive line. Senior wide receiver Trevon Chandler (2nd team all-district) will lead a receiver corp which will also include sophomore Charles Kirtley and senior tight end Dylan Von Motz. Defense: Five starters return to the Channelview 4-2-5 defense in 2019. Senior defensive end Caleb Molina (2nd team all-district) will lead the Falcon defensive line. Senior linebacker Albert Garcia will lead a group which should be a strength for Channelview this year. Joining him will returning junior Cinque Marshall and junior Donzel Andress. Senior defensive backs Isiah Hamilton (1st team all-district) and Zion Webb (2nd team all-district) will be joined by sophomore Raymond Zapata and junior TomLee Thomas to patrol the Falcon secondary. Special Teams: Senior Casteneda, who appointed for 50 of Channelview's points in 2018, will again be a busy man as he will handling both place kicking and punting this year.
