WOSgrad Posted June 18, 2019 Report Posted June 18, 2019 2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS HAMSHIRE-FANNETT LONGHORNS 2018 Record: 5-6 Overall, 1-3 District 4th Place in District 10-4A-II The 2018 Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns managed to reach at least one of their goals as they qualified for the Class 4A, Division II. However, the number of district wins was far too little and stay in the playoffs was far too short for Head Coach Mark Waggoner's taste. Waggoner is looking for improvement from last season as he does return a lot of experience (6 starters on offense, 7 on defense). Head Coach: Mark Waggoner Assistant Coaches: Blake Waggoner (Offensive Coordinator), Justin Richter (Running Backs/Outside Linebackers), Jeremy Abshier (Defensive Line), Jeremy Seymour (Defensive Backs), Wesley Parks (Wide Receivers), James Knowles (Offensive and Defensive Lines), Tigee Rideaux (Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs), Brody Fesco (Offensive Line) Offense: Six starters return to the Hamshire-Fannett offense in 2019. Senior Marcus Morris (10-4A-II Offensive Player of the Year in 2018) will again lead the Longhorn spread offense. He will be joined in the backfield by senior running back Kyle Saurage with junior Anakin Hall also seeing carries. The Hamshire-Fannett receiver corp will feature senior wide receiver Tahji Edwards and juniors Garrett Picou and Evan Viator. Senior Mason Hathaway and sophomore Kheagian Keckamen will also see significant time at wide out. Senior Lane Berry (2nd team all-district) will lead an offensive line which will also feature senior Gabe Constance. Look for seniors Grady Doucet and Greg Johnson, as well as junior Hunter Freeman to compete for starting posts on the line. Defense: Seven starters return to the Hamshire-Fannett defense in 2019. Senior Jacob Garza (2nd team all-district) and senior Colton Savoie will lead a defensive line which will also feature junior Blake Briggs. Saurage will team with senior inside linebacker Mason Stutes (2nd team all-district), junior Jordan LaVergne and sophomore Brendan Walter to form the Longhorn linebacker corp. Junior safety Evan Viator (2nd team all-district) will join with fellow safety Hall (2nd team all-district at outside linebacker in 2018) and Morris to anchor a Hamshire-Fannett secondary which will also include Hathaway and sophomores Jordan Joiner and Darius Byrd.
