2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS

CROSBY COUGARS

2018 Record: 7-3 Overall, 4-3 District

5th Place in District 12-5A-II

The 2018 Crosby Cougars found themselves in a place that they haven't been since 2005...outside of the playoffs.  Counting on that to change, Crosby will look to a new face on the sidelines as Jerry Prieto, who comes up from Veteran's Memorial High School in Corpus Christi where he was offensive coordinator, will be the new leader on the Cougar sideline.  Prieto will welcome back seven returning starters (4 on offense, 3 on defense) in an effort to get Crosby back into the playoff picture.

Head Coach: Jerry Prieto

Assistant Coaches (Partial List): Johnnie Freeman (Offensive Coordinators), Jackson Tarr (Defensive Coordinators), Charles McKeon (Inside Linebackers), Troy Fox (Defensive Line), Earl Campbell (Running Backs)

Offense:

Four starters return to the Crosby offense in 2019 to run a different version of the spread.  Competing to run the offense will be junior quarterbacks James Woodruff and Reggie Branch.  Senior wide out Hubert Mitchell and juniors receivers Jaylen Herman, Isaiah Cavazos and E'Monte Wilson will step into the Cougar receiver group.  The most veteran portion of the Crosby offense will be in the offensive line which includes all four returning starters.  Seniors Keegan Schexnyder, Blaine Berry, Robert Medina and Ramiro Jaramillo return where they will be joined senior Daniel Morris and sophomore Demetrius Strahan.

Defense:

Three starters return to the Crosby defense, who will run out of the 3-4 set, in 2019.  Senior Tramell White, junior Tyler Thomas and sophomore McCoy Casey will step in to lead the Cougar defensive line.  Senior inside linebacker Hunter Bailey (2nd team all-district) will lead the Crosby linebacker group.  Senior safety Marcus Jnoffin (2nd team all-district) and junior DeNiquez Dunn will anchor a secondary which will also include junior defensive backs Jaden Fields, Sir Hill, and Michael Ray.

Special Teams:

Sophomore Trevor Helburg (1st team all-district) will again handle the place kicking for Crosby.  The punting and return duties will be finalized at summer practice.

They could easily be 0-3 going into the vidor game. Maybe 0-4 after that

Possibly could be 0-3, but highly doubtful 0-4.  If the right QB plays, possibly 3-0, although New Caney, Manvel, and WOS will all be tough games. Time will tell.

Well, you may want to talk to Coach Prieto about that.

Well if they plan to run the ball 70% or more of the time the other will be fine. If they plan to sling it around..  Ehh well some one above had a pretty spot on prediction.

Not sure the coaches information is correct, I believe Matt Riordan went to Splendora.  And Earl Campbell the RB coach, come on now....

I have no idea, I don’t go watch practices.  Did the transfer from GCM show back up over there or something ?
