whsalum
I had never heard of this in district contest until last year.It happened last year in the boys division and the year before in a girls district.District games fell during the holiday break and players were able to play in this 2 week period and were then inelgible again.I personally think the district chairs should take a real close look at this.Timing on the schedule should not be a factor in district playoff races.I can see where it might be acceptable in tournaments or non district games but not with playoff spots on the line.JMO

warfan
I have seen this numerous times. I agree it should not be permitted. It certianly makes a mockery of the no pass no play rule.
Guest totalsportsprogram
I don't agree with players playing during holidays if they are ineligible but, it is only fair to make them eligible because the holidays don't count toward their time of being ineligible. It would be like saying someone is sentenced to 1 year in prison and holidays don't count toward that year but you still have to stay in prison during the holidays. whsalum
I don't have a problem with them playing in the holiday tournaments.I just don't think it's fair for them to play in games with district playoff implications. That's why I said the district chairs should look at it.The playoff picture could be determined by timing of the holiday break or the timing of the schedule. warfan
What's the lesson here. If you don't do your work and get laid off you still get paid holidays. Sorry, I feel that if a kid in ineligible at the break he/she should be ineligible during the break and untill he brings his grades up. It is very rare that if a kid goes to class, does his work and turns it in he fails. If he does all that and still fails you will find there are other issues. Guest totalsportsprogram
Warfan,Your feelings are shared here, however, if we were to have it your way then the week we are off for Thanksgiving or the two weeks at Christmas should count toward the time they serve in order to regain their eligibility. There has to be consistency.Getting fired from a job would be an unfair comparison since getting fired means not having a chance to get hired back. How about if an employee gets suspended for the first time..........it is usually with pay. They get suspended with pay and have a chance to come back. warfan
I agree with consistency. Whatever is done it needs to be consistent. Whsalum, I think was more concerned with players who have not been playing in district games being eligible to play during the breaks in district games. I can sure see that point. It is something that the district committee should look into.
Guest totalsportsprogram
I don't believe that this is an issue that the district exec committee's can decide on. I believe this is a UIL eligibility issue that must be changed by the UIL. I am fairly certain this is not a district by district issue.

The only district that I know that had the issure was 24AA.
