The game that everyone expected to be a barn burner for the championship turned out to be a blowout win for the Oilers as they beat Hull-Diasetta 36-7. West Hardin is once again expected to be at the top of the district race with Hull-Diasetta in 2007 and many expect the championship to once again be decided when these two meet up. Last year the Oilers averaged 27 points per game. West Hardin lost 2 of the best players in all of Southeast Texas last year in Brandon Letsinger and Zach Simmons. QB Tyler Copeland and RB Ethan Tubbs will fill those spots. As backups last season Copeland passed for 275 yards and 5 touchdowns and Tubbs rushed for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tubbs also caught 12 passes for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. Other Offensive Impact Players:Matt Henshaw (TE) Defensive SummaryThe Oilers also have 5 starters back from a defensive unit that gave up 17 points per game last year. LB Jarid Bordes returns after having a huge 2006 season. Bordes finished 2006 with 174 tackles. Also back on defense is LB Justin Doiron who had 4 interceptions last season. The West Hardin DL will be led by Jasper Fillingame, Lucas Lowe and Austin Laird. The Oilers also have a pair of very good DE in Josh Bowman and B.J. Meche.Other Defensive Impact Players:Patrick Kelley (LB)West Hardin will begin their season with a home game in week 0 against Groveton. They will then hit the road for 3 straight games against 24-2A teams Warren, Hardin and Kountze. The Oilers open 24-1A play on October 12 when they travel to Evadale to face the Rebels. Many feel the district championship will be decided once again on November 2 when West Hardin travels to Hull-Daisetta.
