Biggio on his five-hit performance Five days after becoming the 27th player in major league history to reach 3,000 hits, Craig Biggio has been named the National League Player of the Week for June 25-July 1, 2007.

The 41-year old second baseman tied a career-high with five hits in the Astros 8-5 win over the Rockies on June 28th. He reached the 3,000 hit milestone with his third single of the game in the seventh inning off of Colorado starter Aaron Cook.

The five-hits were the most by any player in a game in which he recorded his 3000th hit, surpassing George Brett and Tony Gwynn who each had four hits. Over the course of the week, Biggio hit .444 (8-18) with two runs and one RBI.

Other nominees included Houston teammates Lance Berkman (.286, 4 HR, 9 RBI) and Carlos Lee.
