KFDM COOP Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 Dishon, Rowell land on All-State unitsVan WadeThe Orange LeaderTwo local Orange County graduates and outstanding baseball players, made their respective All-State Teams on the Texas Sportswriters Association All-State Baseball Teams which were announced Tuesday.Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior catcher Jake Rowell was a Second Team selection on the Class 4A All-State Team while Bridge City outfielder Johnny Dishon was a First Team All-State 3A selection.Rowell, the District 22-4A Most Valuable Player and the Orange Leader’s Offensive MVP, racked up tremendous numbers his senior campaign in helping lead Coach Steve Griffith and the Bears to another district title.The future McNeese State Cowboy only struck out one time during the 22-4A race and batted over .600 in his 14 22-4A contests. For the season, Rowell hit an enormous .552 with 11 home runs and 15 doubles. He drove in 47 runs and scored 36 times.Dishon, who will play at Louisiana State University next season, was a key cog in helping guide Coach Billy Bryant’s Cardinals to a third straight trip to the 3A Region III Finals.Dishon, The Orange Leader’s Most Valuable Player, batted .322 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI. He swiped 30 bases and scored a whopping 55 runs and played tremendous defense in centerfield.Both Rowell and Dishon recently competed in their respective Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star games, which were played last month in Round Rock.Rowell was joined on the Class 4A Team locally by Barbers Hill catcher Cameron Campbell and Barbers Hill pitcher Ross Hales, who both made the Third Team.Dishon was joined on the 3A Team by Hardin-Jefferson designated hitter Aaron Treece on the First Team. Silsbee outfielder Rocky Calhounwas a Second Team pick, and Jasper pitcher Travis Reagan landed on the Third Team. Jasper coach Shawn Mixon, who led Jasper to the 3A state crown, was the Coach of the Year.
