Recommendations for pregame meal in San Augustine or Shelbyville

I will be going to Shelbyville Thursday night to catch the Shepherd/Shelbyville game. Need help in finding a good spot for pregame meal. Will be going thru San Augustine to get there so give me some choices there or in Shelbyville.

Like 10 minutes away,  The Pizzeria in Center is a good place...

If your travels take you through Zavalla, The Eagles Nest has a great Chicken Fried Steak and a great buffet........

I have ate there before. Good food.

But I will be coming thru there around 4pm. A little too early for my pregame meal.

If you want to go a few miles out of Shelbyville , go a few miles, probably about 12 miles to Huxley Bay. It is on Toledo Bend and they make a fantastic chicken fried steak, fried fish or hamburger steak.

Getting lot's of recommendations for Double J BBQ about a mile outside of Shelbyville on HWY 87 towards Center. Think this will be my destination.

We’re at in center on the seafood I been trying every place in Center and haven’t heard about that one?

It’s really not even a mile to the BBQ place. They also have the Trails End about 10 - 12 miles outside of Center near the lake.

A beautiful drive through the Sabine National Forrest to the Trails End you would have to keep an eye out for the deer. Also the Boles field is a cool place to stop and see the scenery. Lots of old mans beard.

Might just want to brown bag it and snap into a slim Jim or two, maybe a pound of jerky, a bag of pork rinds, and a good old fashioned root beer. Let the good times roll!! Don’t forget the tums!
