Guest Its_All_About_Tha_U
I am from Lumberton and watched the 91 and 2000 Raiders play.....2007 Raiders would have beaten both of these teams 9 out of 10 times......Both the 91 and 2000 teams were good, but were not as good as 07 on both sides of the ball... Agreed. It's not even close if you ask me as far as Lumberton goes. 2007 Raiders accomplished more than any other Raider team by far and had talent on both sides of the ball. Throw in the Dayton upset and the win over defending state champion LaMarque along with 1st ever distrtict title and 1st ever playoff appearance. stang4life
The 1987 West Orange Stark Mustangs (15-0) In week two beat the #3 team in the nation, Aldine Macarther Other key wins that year were #3 ranked Jasper, #8 ranked Silbee, #2 ranked Kerville Tivy, and in the state championship game gave up only 7 points to the Rockwall Yellowjackets, whose offensive coordinator was the great Todd Dodge.ย The Mustangs recorded six shutouts, and the most points given up in any game was 15.ย This team has been selected as Dave Cambell's 4AAAA Team of the 80's. Ditto!
Majestyk
I thought that Aldine team was ranked #1 in the nation (USA Today), and I know WO-S was like #12 in the nation when the season was over, very rare for a smaller class school.
Majestyk
My bad, I checked it out, WO-S was #15 in the nation in the final 1987 USA Today poll.ย Could not find the pre-season poll but I thought Aldine MacArthur was #1.
WOS87
To date, no Non-5A team from Texas has ever ranked as highly as the '87 WO-S team did since USA Today started their national rankings in 1980. ย Aldine MacArthur was ranked #1 in 5A in Texas when we beat them that year. ย It remains the only time that a lower classification team knocked off a #1 ranked 5A team in Texas. Majestyk
Very good.ย Saw alot of 5A teams up there but no 4A or lower that ranked ahead of WO-S in the final poll.
kicker
Just imagine if we (WOS)would have gotten by Yates in '85. We win state in 5A. Yates went on and pounded Permian in the finals. Coach Hooks said he thinks that was the best two teams he had ever seen going head to head.
TradinUp BH
WB 1991 team was the best one for overall athletes and just total domination. Choked in the playoffs after being picked to win state. Ranked #4 in state that year.
